I had planned to take her away but it was cancelled as per the covid lockdown. We have never left these shores I was going to take her to the Isle of man where I had my first holiday but that was crushed, I'm not looking at booking in October in a cabin with a hot tub. We have been married for 34 years this year so any jewellery she wanted she has she has jewellery that she does not even wear.

A thing of beauty.

I have already got 3 presents sorted I wanted to buy her a ring but she does not want any Jewellery so I have to think outside the box.

Great book very in depth for those predisposed to all things technical.

I have to buy the wife something for her 60th on the 8th of April I wonder if she would be happy with a sky quality meter? 😁

Taurus Double Doubles & Subarcsecond
wookie1965 replied to cloudsweeper's topic in Observing - Reports
Wow great separation 0.9° I have done a 1° never thought I could get less than that next time I am out all being well I will give it a go. Great report Doug that scope is well worth keeping. -
Great E&F I have only seen once in my first scope a 6" reflector despite using a 8" and two refractors 4&5" I have not replicated it more to do with seeing than anything else. Whenever I get the chance look the seeing and transparency are rubbish one of these nights it will all come together. Nice report some good objects.

37 cluster is a great cluster glad you found it great when you happen to come across something new.

NGC 7789 still eluding me. Maybe.

Yes once centered up the magnification I've seen it in a 8" and it looked really beautiful. I have got it in my 5" Refractor but had to up the mag to really appreciate it, if the 6" is the 150p go for 8mm giving you x93 then bump it up again to a 5mm giving you x150 this should make the stars pop out. -

First visual session in a long time!

Brilliant I had the whole set I didn't get on with the 5mm I use a 4.5mm TMB now much easier, I have a televue Plossl a couple of Meade stamped with Japan on so I know they are good a lovely vixen 10mm and a 8-24mm celestron zoom, my goto eyepiece is the 15mm BST though it is by far a brilliant eyepiece. Your lucky having the motors when I had my set up it was manual all the time I found loads with it though and learned the sky much better then. -
Great report some really nice doubles there.

Nice report John E & F I have only ever seen once in a 150p I had when I first started since then they have eluded me.

My first scope and mount was the 150p on a EQ3-2 mount modest yes also brilliant I saw 6 stars in the trapezium something I have yet to replicate in any of my scopes I have had since one being a 200p. The BST Starguider eyepieces are very good for there money I have 3 a 15mm which I would not swap for a Televue anytime. The full moon is a bane on viewing Tegmine I have only split recently into its 3 components and that was with a 5" refractor Iota Cancri is a lovely double but as you said washed of colour in the moonlight. The 6" and BST`s are very capable I onced wowed a seasoned astronomer with the 150p and a 8mm BST looking at the Ring Nebula (M57) he could not believe how good it looked. Keep at it maybe get a motor for the mount to aid tracking but you have a great set up there to do lots of things with. Best wishes Paul -
Can anyone suggest some nice clusters?
wookie1965 replied to Orange Smartie's topic in Getting Started With Observing
I have never seen M51 from home much too much light pollution. M31 unfortunately is now low in the west and will be getting lower, However the summer constellations are rising Lyra, Hercules and Cygnus to name a few and in those there is plenty to look at there in Lyra you have the ring nebula M57 and the double double two stars that are doubles themselves great for checking optics see when you split these. Then in Hercules the great cluster M13 but dont forget the other cluster smaller but still superb M92 -
As Above learn to enjoy your new purchase first when I got my first scope a 6" reflector I used the 25mm and the 10mm for over 6 months before upgrading. When I did I went for the BST Starguider eyepieces they have a great reputation on here and I was not disappointed, I have 3 now the 25mm,15mm and the 8mm all really very good eyepieces for £50 new but they do come up second hand from time to time.

A Warm welcome to SGL

I dont bother in full moon as you cannot get close doubles hopefully it will be clear next week when the moon is not as bright great haul by the way.

I have to do a 2 star or 3 star alignment every time I start the mount up (EQ5 pro) the first star is always some way off I dont think they can keep the calibration after switching off.
