  6. A warm welcome to SGL enjoy your scope in light polluted areas go for double stars and clusters, Galaxy hunting can be very frustrating and off putting especially to a new observer, I was there once felt like packing in and I had 6" scope. Luckily I met a fellow SGLer who gave me loads of information and health issues aside I get out as often as I can I enjoy my sessions. Good luck
  7. According to Haas Izar is showcase pair. 60-mm, 120x showing brilliant amber star with a deep blue spur on its edge; both stars are vivid in glorious colour. Smyth: "Pale orange; sea green"
  8. Alpha Herculis also known as Rasalgethi ( SAO 1026 81) Orange/red with blue/turquoise companion
  9. What about liquid steel, you could take the OTA apart tap the dent out and the crack can be made stronger using the Liquid steel I have used this on water pump housing to great effect on a car. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Weld-8267-SteelStik-Reinforced-Stick-2/dp/B00RN7CT2U/ref=asc_df_B00RN7CT2U/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309775958298&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15783143649614881540&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046510&hvtargid=pla-406164801593&psc=1&th=1&psc=1
  10. Can someone just clarify this for me I have the EQ6 Tripod with a adapter plate for EQ5 with a extension this extension has a removable North pin as in the pictures would this fit the Ioptron az Pro mount or would I need a EQ6 Tripod extension if so I can save a lot of money when I come to buy it and I can use my Meade 127mm F9. 3 on it with extra counter weights on thanks.
  11. I have 3 of O'Meara's books all very informative. Yes being a open cluster you would need to look wider, in a scope I'd be looking at that with very low power. Your very welcome any help just ask. 🙂 Paul
  12. That is the book I have 2nd edition. C1 is a open cluster mag 8.1 but O'Meara has it at 7.1 easily seen in my 4" scope to be honest not sure what 15 x 70 will get down to but I would think you would easily see it. You are very lucky I have never seen the Leo trio from home in any of my scopes including the 8" reflector I had. If there is anything else I can help with please don't hesitate to ask. Best wishes Paul
  13. The Caldwell catalog if you did not know was compiled by Sir Patrick Moore, Caldwell being his middle name I will check my book and let you know what the objects you were looking at where.
  14. Thanks Doug, Still in severe pain so I am observing vicariously through other people's reports. Not had the weather anyway and the forecast is terrible even so I would have to ask my son set up for me anyway. When I can sit up properly I will write a few lists for when I do go out try to keep them in a small area so I can just sit in one place and view without getting up and down. Thank you for posting really enjoy reading your reports. Paul
  15. You get a lot more chances to get out than I do and I love the reports from your different scopes really appreciate even what a small refractor will get you.
  16. Doug, Great haul there I will have to check my lists to see if I have got those doubles great read. One thing where did you get the print outs from please. Paul
  17. Brilliant at least you can get out, forecast was supposed to be clear here from 2am but I was in bed up at 4am it was full cloud. Some really nice objects there galaxies I won't see unless I get to a dark sky site which will be quite a while yet.
  18. Nick (cotterless45) taught me this type in NGC 6992 look through the eyepiece all the time and type in NGC 6995 the scope will now curve around showing the Eastern Veil its magical .
  19. Jessops 10 x 50 roof prism not that good I am sure they are a tad misaligned but have no idea how to adjust or check. Revelation 10 x 42 SF Waterproof Roof Prism binoculars really nice Olympus 10x50 DPS 1 Seem very good looked at M13 with them a few weeks back.
  20. Peter when I can move around a bit more I would really like to take you up on the offer as a fully vaccinated person also we should be very safe cheers. Best wishes Paul
  21. Thanks Peter, I know I'm not in a good place at the moment seen surgeon he wants new MRI he has said an op is a last resort he is going down the lines of the epidural I should of had 18months ago with anti inflammatorys then physio therapy from their therepists who deal with this all the time. (Walton Neurological Centre). So I am being optimistic I cannot star hop to save my life my first scope was on a EQ3-2 after a few months I was going to give it all up that's why I got the EQ5. Takes me 40 minutes set up well it did carrying everything outside polar aligned and lift the scope and weights on plus two flight cases one with eyepieces one with dew strips polar scope right angled adapter, polar scope Illuminator plus two power packs if I am running off 240v if not got deep cycle marine battery box which is heavy on a trolly but still got to pull it. My thinking was a case with mount my eyepiece case on a trolley with tripod and pier extension of the Ioptron just my scope then two trips and everything is done. I could really do with looking at lighter setups in action as you said. Nick suggested a Skywatcher Skymax 127mm AZ goto. So that's another option but then again it's power supply. Paul
