Probably my fourth time observing now, wanted to have a quick look at jupiter, then wanted to try and find the andromeda Galaxy for the first time, then wanted to spot the Orion nubulae for the first time.. These were my objectives for this evening..

Well had a good look at Jupiter was fantastic as usual so spent quite a while gazing at that.

Then tried to find the andromeda Galaxy, almost gave up, but eventually found it. Wow. Spent a while gazing at that also.

Then tried tried to pick out the orion nubulae, was easier to find and again another wow, so spent a while gazing at that too.

Get that sorted now! The stars will always be there. The planets, too (although maybe in different ways).

Your wife is more important than all that 'in the sky' stuff. And don't you forget it, sir!

(Now, it's looking clear outside; she's into her book; maybe I can sneak outside for a bit .....)

Finding Andromeda: cool.

Finding your wife: lifetime achievement. Doesn't get better. Full stop.

Now behave yourself and get on with looking at the sky and keeping your missus onside. Stargazing is a skill to be developed ...

Thankfully I've avoided any hassle so far, by showing her the coolest stuff I've found. Got a great reaction to the likes of Jupiter and M42.

All of the benefits with none of the hard work (or financial contributions :D)!

My other half has no interest in the stars and due to coke bottle glasses can't see through the scope anyway.

Just as I have no interest in wandering round the bush carrying a backpack full of camping gear then sleeping in a canvas bubble to keep off the snakes and mozzies.

We understand each other.

Reminds me when I purchased my 8" orion skyview pro , was around christmas,, My thoughts were she will just think it is a gift i ordered for someone. However the FEDx driver help bring it into the house, he knew things...... told her to handle it gently, it looks like it may be a telescope., Yep wife was setting next to it when i got home. Have a great wife we both laught about it, I never order nothing now without telling her first, lol.

Well done ! You will just have to wait a few years to get your wife used to your evening disappearing act. It only took me about 20 years to get the wife happy to see the back of me.

But the kitchen is no place for my telescope

I find showing her Pleiades a few times a winter helps.

A dose of watching the Perseids in August is also good medicine for this issue.

Telescope time is like computer time - what I think is only few minutes of repeatedly picking my jaw up off the floor after looking at Saturn or other gorgeousness is actually an hour and a half or more, as my wife informs me just when something I've been waiting to clear the rooftops hoves into view.....'It's 1 oclock...come to bed.... I've got work in the morning...' :D.

But, as has been well said, that tardy something that only just comes into view as I have to pack up, will be around again. The stars will dance forever. So, patience and compromise! And

showing my lovely wife Saturn and the ISS gave her a hint of why I was losing track of time faced with the endless waltz of the heavens :)

My good lady wife is very supportive and has even got into the habit of checking the skies for me whenever she is wandering past an appropriate window. She is not as keen on looking at the stars as I - she certainly wouldn't sit outside for hours on end, but she is very interested when I find something cool for her to look at......although I may have pushed her tolerance to the limits when I woke her up at 3:30 am after finding Saturn for the first time.....   :grin:
