Have been a birdwatcher for many years and so had a decent pair of 'bins to familiarise myself with the sky but this 'scope thing came as something of a shock when I discovered my trusty old Nikon 80mm was "no good"!!!

After lurking for a while and reading many, many posts I bought a Skywatcher 130 GOTO which I used for a couple of hours last night and was very pleased with at both the ease of setup and my "first light" results around Orion. I was apprehensive about doing the setup but the hours spent viewing problems etc in the beginners section paid off although for the next session I will need to practice my red-dot finder skills (which are not helped by wearing vari-focal spectacles) and generally be more organised.

Thanks for all the helpful posts!

Ron
