It will complement your FS 128.

Jeremy. I’ll defer to your good self. Will be a rather nice addition to your Tak herd. πŸ‘πŸ˜‚
Answering my own question. By Jove - YesΒ

That's a wonderful looking telescope..I especially (and genuinely!) love that handle!.

But it seems to weigh in at over double the weight of my FS128, and would need a much bigger and heavier (and much more expensive!) mount.

For someone with a permanent observatory and funds to equip it, I would say "go for it".. but I'm very happy that my current Tak will do me for my remaining orbits around our planetπŸ”πŸŒπŸ˜Š.

As for the video itself, I couldn't help thinking that the speaker could have spent more time discussing the scope's actual performance rather than the size and cost of his eyepiece collection?

Happy New Year everyone..πŸ˜‰

Here is the FS-128 (aka Phyllis) on my AZ100 Goto with pillar and on a Planet tripod. I spent the evening largely looking at clouds, but had some decent views of Jupiter.

Not so much of the Tak, but what's attached to it. I think things are just about perfect nowΒ :smile:Β It will be getting a workout in the next few nights, which for once look to be clear.

In actual use I've noticed a couple of things - apart from it being incredible smooth.

Firstly I needed more than that 35mm extension to reach focus. I'm using the 80mm Tak extension and at that the 30mm UFF has it racked well out.

Secondly it's a lot lighter than the Tak focuser. My scope is unbalanced and I've had to move the counterweight up a bit.

That sounds right. Both those things help me with binoviewing as it gives more infocus and also helps offset the weight of the binoviewers.Β

The Tak FC-100 was throwing some very pleasing views of Jupiter, the Moon and several DSOs last night at the BSIA star party for the few that braved the cold.

A lovely late afternoon tour of the Moon under the guidance of 'Turn Left at Orion'. The highlight for me was catching the craters Armstrong, Collins and Aldrin for the first time. Very nice to be able to observe and still have enough daylight to read by.

No, I've had that 3 years or so now. It's great for high power lunar/planetary. I don't bother levelling it properly and don't use goto but it still tracks good enough that a small correction every couple of minutes is all that's required.

  • 2 weeks later...

These are my last images of Trinity, my FS128, which many of you know will be going to the care of a new owner this week.

It has been my great privilege to have this wonderful scope for the past 7 years, and I have had some fabulous views with her.

20240130_211342.thumb.jpg.61283fb247d9469b6f7599b5e3849ce8.jpg

I managed a last session last night under very dark and transparent skies..my abiding memory of my first and only Tak will be Sharpness and Contrast,Β Sharpness and Contrast,Β Sharpness and Contrast!!

20240131_114041.thumb.jpg.955c8ead5c1d1d8ac7b8b74c975c0fc8.jpg

I have today been checking the scope from top to bottom to ensure the new owner is as delighted when they come to the handover as I was when I picked her up from the first owner..

20240131_143833.thumb.jpg.1de238d1d7351d4bb8670852a130a6e2.jpg

I think I am there now.

Lastly, all I need is for Jeremy to officially confirm that the objective does in fact pass his lickability test?😊

Still not sure yet Jeremy?? Oh, alright, just one more..

To paraphrase an iconic advert from a very expensive watch company.... "you never really own a Takahashi, you merely look after it for the next generation."

It's amazing that we've got to page 17 and I haven't shown any of my Tak's. I must not have been paying attention, for several years!

First Tak: FS128, 2003.

Next was my FS152. 2007. (The EQ6 wasn't able to carry this scope well!)

My next Tak was some time in coming, and it was a FC100DC. 2015.

I also became the owner of my friend Derek's Sky 90 for a time. It was a lovely scope but superfluous to my requirements, and so went to a new owner.

Below, Derek with his pride and joy. ~2016.
