But as I showed above Affinity takes PS pluggins...??!!

But have you tried to install the one being quoted - I don't think that it will work with APP only PS. I contacted Prodigal Software and they said that it would not work in APP because I wanted to instal it.

You do mean Affinity Photo when you say APP, and not Astro Pixel Proccessor...??

Confirmation from Neil Carboni

I'm sorry, no, Astronomy Tools actions only work with Photoshop.

Our plug-ins, AstroFlat Pro, StarSpikes Pro 4, and StarFilter Pro 4, by contrast do work with Affinity Photo.

Well that’s very good, as I use AstroFlat pro, I find it as good as gradient terminator, if not better....👍🏼

I am just in the process of moving from APP, after a few years of use, and moving to Affinity Photo, after a week of testing, I find it superb and is a real all in one solution just like APP, The stacking tool seems so much more simple and easy to use and gives superb results...don’t get me wrong APP is superb, but the difference in price is not to be ignored....£24 one off fee V £65 a year for APP....🤔🤔

You can use APP for it all, I have done many times, it’s a bit more of a learning curve, and the tools are not as powerful as PI, but it can be done, and anyone who says that it can’t, does not know how to use APP, and to assume you can’t is just ignorant....

And your point..??

That is still true, but I am now using affinity and it’s even easier...and more Importantly is £24 one off fee, instead of £65 a year...so what is your point...??

You seem to really enjoy trying to wind me up and I would really like to know why this is...?? You always seem to hunt my posts out and try and trash them...you really need to get a life....

The main difference is that PS is a subscription service whereas Affinity is a one off payment. Also Affinity has the astrostacking but PS does not. Some specialised astro tools do not work in Affinity but there are other ways of achieving the same. Most PS plug ins work in Affinity.

Does Affinity Photo have a user manual for beginners?

It has a chunky general work book for processing, for astronomy some video and macro's on James Ritson's web pages  HERE

A SGL member Dave Eagle has an Affinity guide HERE

Dave did a StarGaZine talk on Affinity V1.8 HERE

Thanks Mick, that's very useful.   👍

Take a look at the video of EP12 on the StarGazine forum on here, it is a presentation on APP by it’s creator Mabula Haverkamp, it focuses on APP’s comet image processing capability, but it will give you a good insight into it’s features.

Personally, I think it does an excellent job for calibration and stacking, and you can use it to for onward processing, but  I note you already have PS for this. There is a free trial if you want to try it out.

The first is the lack of an available manual which has been requested many times over the last four years but which still doesn't seem to have appeared.  For a commercial product costing so much it is unthinkable that there should be no documentation for it.

I have to agree; a paid for product should provide documentation covering all of the functions/options that the software is capable.

A bugbear of mine of mine for several decades that started with the introduction of user support fora - IIRC that first major company was Microsoft

Win 98 came with a manual 😄

Dave

And I think that was the last.

I remember TechNet moving to online documentation, then to “user support” fora before Win98

but I’m old. … no doubt with faulty memory.

1st PC was self build superboard uk101, then a Dragon.

Just found this topic having been blundering my way through APP yet again without any instructions and glad to have found a potential alternative in Affinity Photo which I'm about to buy having read the opions here.

I dont have a diploma in science but I am savvy enough to use Photoshop to a pretty reasonable standard to finish my files when they eventually appear in APP (with luck) because the processing tools in the right hand panel are nothing short of ridiculous in my opinion.

APP is not a finished product, it's extremely biased towards people who have a high degree of technical knowledge in the subject and its not for me.  And yes, I have seen the videos which are in no way a substitute for an in depth manual.

Back to the original subject, Is Astro Pixel Processor still being developed?  Yes it is and so it should be but reading the new release notes there's nothing to keep me onboard.

APP is excellent for most stages of image creation. I always finish off my images with a few tweaks in PS anyway.

Releases of new updates seems to have slowed to a halt though. Last 1.083 Beta 3 release was back on 31st May 2021 with a promise of a stable release soon?
