I live in a lovely rural part of the country with very dark nights and almost no light pollution. For years I have been tempted to explore the skies and so have decided to take the plunge and hope to get a new(ish) 200mm reflector on an EQ5 mount.

Next thought was to join a forum and read about how to do it.

Cheers, looking forward to some fun exploration.

Lucky you, and well done on several fine life choices!

Wow, thank you everyone for a very warm welcome.

After a nine hour round-trip to Crewe and a stop off to meet Mr Pemberton himself, I am now the proud owner of an Orion Optics VX8 (1/10 PV) on an EQ5, coupled to a HEQ5 tripod.  I have also purchased an upgrade for the EQ5 but not going to fit this just yet; I want to enjoy finding my own way around first before getting too reliant on a sat-nav.

Included in yesterdays spending spree was a whole bunch of used tubes, adapters, filters and eyepieces (some a bit grubby).  I just need to figure out how to use them now (also clean, install and align), it seems there is a lot to learn but thats hopefully part of the fun.  Perhaps my next email should be to the Orwell Astro Society, I think they have a meeting tomorrow evening.
