This is my shot of the Andromeda Galaxy taken whilst on holiday in Scotland two years ago.
It's 36 frames of 3 minutes each at 1600 iso with a 300mm F4L lens on a modded Canon 600D

all mounted on my Astrotrac, no filters used as it was a very dark site, it was stacked in DSS

as a 32 bit tiff followed by lots of Photoshop.

Never thought I would get such a good response to this thread.

Keep them coming, it is becoming a good showcase of different style and talent!

I really appreciate all contribution, feel free to update if you add more data / reprocesses and get it better.

Anyway I promised I would embarrass myself, so here goes my first ever astro image and M31 to boot!

Come to think of it, I now wonder if that is even pointed at the right place!

Not the right shape at all hmmm.

I look forward to this year's attempt with a mono CCD, which I hope to start after the coming full moon.

Clear skies to all!

Well done on this image, was featured on sky at night a UK astronomy program.

Thank you Chris. That was quite a thrill to see my image come up on screen! Two other images in that sequence were by SGLers too - StuartJPP and Rob Preston - the next two images in the piece. Not sure who the final image was by though - a Trevor somebody!?

That will be Terry Hancock...he's got some excellent images.

I've just done my research and yes indeed, Terry is the creator of fantastic images. As the S@N sequence suggested, this is what we are aiming for!

My 2014 M31 project is set to commence this evening, clouds willing.

Nice one Gav, personally I think that Thomas has set a high bar! (although with a DSLR)

Would be interesting to see where you land with a CCD and with integration time.

(F-Ratio and Dark sky aside as Thomas has some pretty impressive kit in a pretty dark location)
