  1. Orion Optics UK - disheartening "story" Hello, so sorry to read that, but I have nothing good to say about Orion, for one thing they don't manufacture anything--they are simply a reseller. Orion moved to Canada from Northern California, not sure why?
  2. Hello: the least amount of glass between the image and your eye is better. But a Barlow multiply your eye pieces. It's always a question of compromise.
  3. Hello, make sure you have 5amps--although I have a similar issue with my Orion mount pro -- sent it back twice and no change and it was under warranty! :- ( A friend will look at it, bought a CGX mount.
  4. Hello, no storm of any kind, just beautiful stars at the pic indicated by NASA?
  5. "Calculations by different teams have provided three different peaks, all within a 22-minute time span. The most recent one places the peak at 05:04 UTC on May 31, 2022. For much of the Western Hemisphere, this translates to Monday night, May 30-31. It would be 10:04 p.m. PDT (North American west coast), 11:04 p.m. MDT, 12:04 a.m. CDT early on the morning of May 31 (central North America), and 1:04 a.m. EDT on May 31 (eastern North America). Translate 5:04 UTC on May 31 to your time zone." Hello, Will be out in the garden at 10 p.m. The Bottle is 5, so not sure if I will see anything? More likely will hear or see a raccoon or skunk, won't be a wasted time anyway, although I could hear a few owls? As long as the fog does not come in? Keeping my fingers crossed!
  6. Hello: clouds, clouds non not rain, just clouds and wind. Earlier this week it was 37c with very clear skies. That happens when close to the Pacific!
  7. Hello, only the postman? What about UPS or Amazon, etc.? ;- )
  8. The amount of information on the internet is endless, great lectures, explanations, movies, etc. If you Google: Astronomy, space, etc. . .
  9. The cost of energy has gone through the roof, so manufacturing, transportation, etc. goes up accordingly. Add unbalanced supply and demand, and so many other factors.

    Hello from Paris

Welcome or "la bienvenue" to SGL Dan.
  11. Gorgeous, thanks for sharing. I may try tonight, but the fog or high clouds will come--better not say anything.
  12. The fact that the object is lit. Most likely a satellite? See Heavenabove?
  13. Clothe on or off? 😉 One can make a simple stand or sun shade of a black plastic sheet or a garden umbrella to keep light away from your observing area. My neighbors have motion detector lighting, so he can watch wildlife going by, even the occasional coyote or mountain lion . So I installed a simple system that I erect when I am out there, it helps a great deal. That same neighbor likes to have lights everywhere in his garden, even the trees have a light treatment, it is pretty, but. . .
  14. OH NO! That is what we call over here "aperture envy" gone mad! Enjoy it with clear skies.
  15. That is gorgeous and impressive, thank you for sharing.
  16. Hello: Indeed a GPS module is very helpful and more precise, of course less tedious when setting up.
  17. Hello: Is pollution always bad? I am thinking of spring air full of tiny seeds? (hay fever)
  18. Hello, you guys make me feel guilty, although smoke has cleared because the winds shifted West, but now we have the marine fog, in the evening. Clear during the day, and no rain since March or April? (can't remember that far back)
  19. Hello, old or new post your information are very helpful--thank you. My new GTX was set up in Spanish?
  20. Hello, I do have a Celestron 8 - 24 and very satisfied with my 5" SCT, it is my grab and go scope with an iOptron cube GPS. Very handy, when space is limited on camping trips in the back woods.

    Hello

Welcome, as you already know you will find plenty to learn and explain.
  22. Great picture of your dome with a full moon and snow on the ground? It makes me think of old western movies, pretending it is night but filmed during the day with filters! The shadow of your dome is so well defined.
  23. Hello: If you stop talking about the weather, it may after all go away! ;- ) But then again?
  24. Hello: From a large urban area it will be challenging but not impossible--particularly if you can escape to a dark area away from light pollution. An 8" is a good size to see plenty. Enjoy!
  25. Hello: I was so wrong, the ugly valley fog lifted by noon and the clouds did not materialized nor the rain. So my neighbors had a very nice view for well over an hour with very few fluffy thin clouds. It was not very different from the previous evening, but I could observe both planets in the same field of view of a 16mm. Could see three moons, but not sure if I could at least see Titan?None the less it was special. Now it can rain and a lots of it would be good! ;- )
