  1. Lovely image, longer subs would bring out the outer arms a touch more but gotta be careful of not blowing out the core.
  2. Maybe stretch the mid-tones of the Ha to lighten the background before integrating it.
  3. Very nice, though just a little dark which may have lost you some of the faint nebulosity.
  4. Excellent image.
  5. Got it, hit post before I finished so edited now. The 0.17 is the best I've managed with a hand held pendant drill, have you used the 0.1 in anger ?
  6. Anyone got any smaller drills that they've successfully drilled with ? This is the best I managed.
  7. I think timber starts as imperial, say 2" x 2" when it is rough sawn. Then gets reduced to 44mm square as planed all round.
  8. Alas we are forgetting machinists real life measurements, a Gnats Whisker, a Fannies Hair, the ubiquitous Tad and Smidgeon, all the way up to a Chunk.
  9. Seems to have handed down the skills. Well it did, as before Mr Whitworth it was a case of make a nut to fit this bolt. There were all hand turned 🤨. You missed, square, ACME, trapezoidal, buttress and of course all the left hand versions.😉
  10. Oh that's soooooo easy. Very light, light, fairly light, medium light, medium, bit heavier, that makes my arms ache, my backs going, Dave get the forklift. On a more serious note, I think grain was one grain of wheat, 24 weight the same as an old penny. Then it starts matching equivalent coinage to weights and volumes. Avoirdupois ounces annoyed me as being a goldsmith everything used to be measured in Troy ounces. Now it's grams I used to have to run through all sorts of conversions until some handy apps appeared for my iPhone.
  11. I used to have a Benbo Trekker, great and versatile but heavy and awkward at times. The ball heads are strong and can take a fair bit of weight. I think the cross bar with counterweight would work, can't remember if it can be easily removed and a longer one made up.
  12. I know that jewellers use a type of resin for printing jewellery for casting, what I remember is that it is harder and can be brittle. That would depend on the thickness of the material. You'll get better detail though.
  13. Nice image, overly dark background is usually a sign of clipping the black point in a histogram or caves stretch.
  14. I use the Ultimate PB V2, great for tidying up all those lose cables and getting rid of clutter. Works very well with Ekos on my Mac.
  15. Stars/Ekos for automation and image capture. Free. I use it and like it. Pixinsight for pre and post processing. Costs around £200. Still on the trial but a definite buy for me. Gimp for anything else post processing. Free. Not really found the need to use it. Stellarium for automation. Free. Only really used it as a planetarium but its very good for that. Siril for pre processing. Free. Tried it and didn't like it. Astap, same as with Siril.
  16. Superb work Dave, well done.
  17. Lovely image, great colours you've got.
  18. Very nice capture.
  19. Tool geometry gets really picky on lighter weight machines. You can often dial out chatter by playing with cutting angles etc and speed and feed rates. But sometimes just taking lighter slower cuts is the only way.
  20. They often print a support matrix as the layers are built up.
