SynScan WiFi and iOS - dummies guide!
cletrac1922 replied to Dazzyt66's topic in Member Equipment Reviews
Dazzyt Have had the WiFi adapter for a while now Just using straight from adapter to my Android device Problem I have, when 2 star alignment, I use Sirius and Canopus, been southern hemisphere When align first star, directions indicate to save move controller up and right Do not get save bit Go to second star, and App chooses star it wants, and not able to search for one I want Any hints Love way App sets your GPS location, time and date I also use in solar mode, no star alignment, with my Coronado SolarMax11 When doing solar viewing, the app gives you an maths question, and have to type in answer John -
I am still having issues saving one or 2 star alignment with the SynScan App Instruction indicate up and right to save Been southern hemisphere, use Sirius and Canopus for 2 star alignment When go to Sirius, as first star, save, then goes to second star, the App choices selection of stars it wants, not what I want Any help John

What’s the best way to get into imaging
cletrac1922 replied to Olli's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
Hi Olli from Land Down Under First thing you need to decide before rushing out buy a scope, either new, or second hand What do I want to use it for Just for observing moon, planets, other DSO's, or venture into astrophotography If the latter, then you will need a mount with Go-To, to enable you to track Have attached pic of my Dob, and ED80 on EQ5 mount I use the Dob, for quick and go, and the ED80 for tracking Also have a Coronado SolarMax 11 which goes on the EQ5 mount John -
Matt Welcome from Land Down Under Which sort of scope you end up purchasing John

Been southern hemisphere, do not have a southern star like Polaris northern hemisphere The north leg, also has to face south I align the mount, using a compass, South Celestial Pole, allowing for magnetic variation, where I am is roughly 10 deg east Then do 2 star alignment Always pretty close to spot on when go to my first object, be planet of deep sky object Mount tracks truly John

Poor Collimation or something else?
cletrac1922 replied to matt_baker's topic in Imaging - Discussion
I use laser for my 10" Dob, and very rarely need to re-collimate, even though out 2 or 3 times per month with my club, doing presentation primary schools, scout/guide groups What I have found with laser collimator, is does not fit snugly like 1.25" eyepiece does in focuser Had a new member a while ago, showed up one club night with a second hand 8" solid tube dob Collimation was way out, and was not able to align When looked down the tube, noticed that the secondary mirror was to one side Using bit of paper, measured the veins, and found secondary off centre After adjusting veins, able to do proper collimation Appears previous owner had been fiddling, and why got rid of it John -
