  1. Yes, I think that is the true reason behind my favoured focal length. A moderate exit pupil does indeed make this focal length in my scopes work better with my astigmatism. I do also seriously wonder if that original 20mm RK that was used for many years has almost worked in a muscle memory kind of way with my head. So my default finder view is 20 mm based? Oh and it plays well with the local sky conditions and light pollution, so darkens the sky enough.
  2. Great isn’t it. I do enjoy Summer, but for my real love, roll on darkness.
  3. Now this is looking so good Doc. I wish I had the patience, skills and kit to do similar.
  4. Good luck with it Kerry, always a shame when kit plays up.
  5. You got a gap, that in itself was an achievement. Thanks for sharing your images Luke.
  6. As a non final posting, it was chopped. I bought a near set of LVW from Tring Astronomy and loved them, then fell for the Green and Black lure. Do I regret it, heck yes, that 22 mm was a peach. It went onto another here, who stopped astro and sold to another here last year. Anyone want to sell me a nice 22 mm LVW? (By the way MODS, that is a rhetorical question and not a shortcut from the Wanted section).
  7. Smaller addition for me, but an addition this time. Nice Japan Made 21 Orange filter.
  8. My eyepiece collection has just had a major churn, sold almost all TeleVue to raise funds towards a new mount, well maybe....but that is another story. So pondering my light polluted skies and past favourites, all have been 22-19mm range. Vixen 22mm LVW, why did I ever let that one go! Panoptic 19mm, my precious as I called it. 18.2mm DeLite. Plossl 20mm, Tele Vue. RK 20mm, came with my first ever Bresser Scope and remains with me. and more that are not popping to mind at the minute. So I was pondering why, it must be that it works ok with my astigmatism, sky brightness and I like how it presents things to my eye. Clearly I favour this focal length, my scope have mainly been 750 - 900mm focal length. Any thoughts on this? And any thoughts on options going forward for this one special slot?
  9. What have I been observing you ask, well Weather Apps and forecast and my bank balance at present. The danger in poor weather is a twitching buy it finger on the internet!

    New hobby

Welcome to SGL and this fine hobby. Two things you learn quickly, how to use weather apps and patience for clear weather. Enjoy.
  11. Good luck on that one Barry, many before you have said the very same......... and many know where it ends
  12. @John, from those in the original thread, you are the last with the two scopes and here on SGL at present. Both @DRT and @Moonshane have not been here on 2020 so far, hope they are OK.
  13. I bet @Stu does not hear that said too often 😉 But as it's been said already, Strewth, what a whopper!
  14. Be very interested as will many on how it is @JeremyS
  15. @John did you align this report with the For Sale section and @carastro 😉 Nice report by the way, perhaps the next size scope should be 120-130mm for me.
  16. So Mint that it feels like a crime to use it!! But I will anyway.
  17. Post Person has been, a recent eBay purchase has arrived, it's mint, looks like never been near a telescope. A 26mm Celestron Halloween Plossl. I have to say sorry to Dave @F15Rules, I know you have been looking via the wanted section.
  18. Black Diamond, Cosmo 225. Adjustable output, has a red output. When switched on it defaults to last setting used, so if on red, stays on red. But do be aware you tend to look at others when you speak, a weakness of a head lamp!
  19. Just had a grab look see before we cloud up, but who knows weather wise at present. Still observable in WL, and things to sit and observe, poor seeing this morning, fingers crossed for a bit later.
  20. Simple question, far longer explanation: If you had a plan for a bigger Refactor, did you do it? I have a very fine Vixen ED103s f7.8 scope, I enjoy using it a great deal and will continue to do so for a long time. However having had larger reflectors, the additional aperture has shown me more on some targets. The problem I have is that my interests are broad. So a ponder for the future, but which effects the present as well..... If I have larger refractor in a few years time, it will need a hefty mount as I want a 5-6". The present is I am looking at adding a new mount to my newly fitted pier, that mount will need to service the bigger scope. So the underlying issue is, am I having a aperture fever moment and it is costing in advance? or should I just do a heavier mount and future resist, not proof my set up. This as per my signature is Visual kit.
  21. 🤣 As is everyone else...... The never ending saga of scopes and eyepieces.
  22. A six inch / 150mm f5 does grab enough light, rather like using my one Martin. Also so much easier to store and move about, especially an OOUK one.
  23. I have just taken a look visually, in the middle of replacing a radiator next door, saw it was clear and had a look see. I just came in and hopped on SGL and see your image, nice to see an image of what I was just looking at.
