  1. Yoo are not on your own, I am much the same. Winter Astronomy sits far better with my sleep and work pattern.
  2. Post person been to me with a new EP, courtessy of AB&S and Mike Baccanin. Now have 10, 7 and 5 in the XW range 😃
  3. Did the mount make it to the Observatory Mike?
  4. Nice clear and well delivered video, thanks for the share.
  5. Simply wow from me Nigella, As a visual WL only solar observer presently, this makes me wish to widen my aim in time. Thanks for sharing.
  6. Pier height will have two variables mainly. The type of use you will put it to, Visual or Imaging The type of scope as this will dictate the focuser height. The two will then dictate the pier height as well as any issues of roof above etc. A few nights ago I used a scope on a 6ft or so high pier, it was mounting a large refractor for visual use.
  7. Terrible thing to happen, let's hope the insurance was in place and is good. As always, begs the question of, Why?
  8. Voldermort..... 🤐 Or was that a Takahashi by any chance Stu? 😉
  9. Sounds most memorable a session and a very enjoyable one as well. I do enjot a Jovian shaddow transit.
  10. Please do, many will like that option, ....... but will you need to fuel it with cheese?
  11. I have full smpathy for those near by, terrible. Light pollution spoils our fine hobby, it has done for me and still does at home, but we adapt and make it work. One thing I have noticed is the sudden need for wild overlighting in the urban environment for no good reason. Go out to the countryside and its quite the opposite mainly, well until a townie moves in and the BOOM overlighting strikes. LED lights were intended to make lighting cheaper and fuel efficient, however the 'Now' generation have spoiled it by just putting in more lights as they are cheap to run.
  12. Yep, price hikes driven by materails, shipping etc. and the perfect storm of higher demand at the same time. When I read you title my initial resposne was, 'its available worldwide and free', then I realised you were not refering to Covid itself!
  13. I actually planted for astro purposes to block light intrusion from next doors spot lights. A run of hedge on boundary, a fence in and around the concrete observing pad and then hedge each of the L of the fence for asthetic and environmental reasons, more plants in garden is good. I did have a large acer topped and crown reduced so I can see Polaris, but the tree needed attention anyway, but it was not felled and would not have been if it was only for astronomy. I am a big green flag waver environmentalist these days and I have more trees and plants in my garden than ever before
  14. Wonderful news all round, congratulations @Chris but your still Lockie in our hearts.
  15. I found I didn’t need a cushion on my Nadira chair that I owned, My backside has sufficient padding of its own.
  16. The Nexus experience mirrors my own, but in my case on a 10" dobson, its a painless way of observing. I intend during 2021 to add a Rown AZ100 as well and make all my observing Nexus linked. What a simple but not star hop was for folks to work. I bought my dobson kit direct from Serge in Australia, he made the dobson kit for my OOUK scope as a one off, he was so helpful, nice guy and great kit. If only everything worked this easily and well.
  17. This is great that material has been recovered from this witnessed fall and onto the UK as well. I look forward to seeing what research comes from this. This in my view is scientific in nature not for the collectors such as many of us here and elsewhere.
  18. No icon for, Oh that makes me want one even more...... just as well. Very nice set up Steve, says a lot for the mount and tripod that. And what a nice ED103s.
  19. Sadly not quite, miss measured when built by a 25mm! But where there is a will..... Thanks for the sugestion, food for thought.
  20. A Cambridge Press facsimile of fine publication: Celestial Objects for Common Telescopes. Rev Thomas William Webb. I really wanted an original, but my pockets were not deep enough or my luck good enough to get one at an affordable cost. It truly is a clear marvel of its time and the flick read it had over lunch was most enjoyable. Really getting into these older publications bit by bit, next thing I will be in a jacket and tie when observing 😉
  21. Ed, thanks, yes indeed it was sized to possibly do this duty when it was built last year. The caps are from the chap in Russia, Roman Backay at R-Sky, same maker of the Monks Hoods https://r-sky.org/en/ As to the Loo Roll, its behind the Dob 😉 I still have a flush of sucess with this project!
  22. ,Well, as these things go another change has taken place, perhaps what I should have done at the start! The shelves all removed from the 'Khazi' and its now a mini-shed for the Dob and Tripod and Mount. Driven by a year long project with the builders in at home, I needed to have access to the scopes and kit, clean and dust free. For Jan and Feb, they have been wrapped away and no access to scopes, which was not tenable for a whole year or more. So the Khazi is less toilet and more shed going forwards, for now, but as someone hinted at the start, it might grow more walls and a roof one day, but that is more than a local managment convinving job as we sit in Green Belt amd might require permission. As it was: As it now is:
  23. Wonderful sketch as always, your skill are far higher than my own, gives me something to aim for.
  24. Wowzer, my dream set up, wonderful. Please let us know how it goes once you are builder free. Something in common, we have notable building works started, in moving all the packing boxes, I managed to cocoon the scopes to no longer allow access, very poor plan on my part indeed.
  25. Didn't you get the clear spot last night? Not best seeing, but always any seeing is welcome at present!
