  1. Let’s hope it wasn’t an ammo store 🤣 Intriguing story, which I’m following closely 👍🏻
  2. I’ve seen the first naked report. Filipp Romanov at it at 5.1 last night, observing from eastern Siberia, near Vladivostok (42deg N). Looking at his location on Google maps, he’s pretty remote!
  3. I wish you’d told me that 40 years ago, Peter! 🤣
  4. Shall we table this discussion? 😊 Which means to me “let’s defer it to another time”, but to my US colleagues it means “let’s discuss it now”. 😊
  5. Too right! I once had a slider, but it stopped before the dovetail completely got loose, so all was well. In any case it wouldn’t have been a complete disaster as was an SCT, not a Tak. 😬
  6. “Quite good” is an expression that I’ve come unstuck with a couple of times with US colleagues. In British English it generally (but not universally) implies that something is passable, generally OK, not terrible. But not as good as I was expecting. That’s how I use it. But I understand in US it (often) means really rather good, certainly better than OK but slightly less than superb 🤔
  7. And you’ve even got clear skies 👍🏻
  8. Just picked up this story, Fish. My commiserations. Good to hear you are moving on and enjoying deciding which model to get next.
  9. I think that Nova Del was the last NE nova, John, at least from these latitudes. Has anyone spotted the current nova with NE? A few obs in the last few hours have it at 5.3 to 5.4
  10. Image taken by Martin Mobberley this morning (May 8, 10.11 UT) using an iTelescope in New Mexico on the BAA website here. He had it at mag V = 5.87.
  11. Could be, John. I’ve seen a handful of obs this evening that have it at mag 6.0 or brighter. As you say: keep observing!
  12. Did they interview any customers?
  13. They are both losers. They should have used a small refractor. Preferably a Tak. (My assumption is that Noah, like most people, couldn’t afford an 8 inch OG) 😊
  14. Latest obs in last 24 hour have the nova at 7.1 to 7.2 vis or V
  15. OPEC being made of sovereign nations is permitted to operate as a cartel. They can set crude oil production targets, for example. Oil & gas companies in UK respect competition law. As an employee of one of these companies I will refrain from further comment. I just want the facts to be correctly stated. Returning to discussions on Astro gear....
  16. No: OPEC is not an oil company. It is a grouping of sovereign countries.
  17. This is untrue and would be illegal for oil companies to act in that way.
  18. I keep my eyepiece in cases indoors at room temp. No cool down needed. I definitely would not keep them in a shed, observatory or garage for fear of humidity build up.
  19. I don’t mind, Mike, as long as it delivers my daily requirement for fluorite 👍🏻
