Single most useful stargazing accessory?

+1 for the Berlebach Uni idea. A real quality product. -
Unable to find dso's with 10" Dobsonian

Love the fun ranking table. That is a new one on me. Paul -
NGC 7789 still eluding me. Maybe.

You are unlikely to spot it with the moon washing out the view. Try again on a moonless night. Paul -
Ethos 13, or ES92 12, or stick with my ES82 14, or ... ?
Paul73 replied to Size9Hex's topic in Discussions - Eyepieces
I went from the ES82° to the 14mm Delos and have been very happy with the move. However.... you can see the lovely crisp field stop due to the long eye relief. The Ethos will give the “floating in space” feeling which encourages you to get really close in to explore the view. I haven’t tried the ES92° range. Paul -
Finally processed Mars animation from October!

So good, I watched it twice! Thanks for posting. Paul -
Leo trio - how easy to find?
Paul73 replied to Orange Smartie's topic in Getting Started With Observing
Congratulations. Now that you know what you are looking for, you’ll spot them every time. I tried for them this evening but could only see two of the three. Turns out that my secondary was half iced over! Paul -
Sounds like you got some decent viewing before the back/cold brought things to a halt. The Eskimo seems to have been a popular target tonight. Paul
-
I visited Gemini earlier for a quick look at M35 with NGC2158. Should have stopped off at the Eskimo too. It is definitely well worth a visit. Glad that you managed to track it down. Paul

I want this set up !!!!

Possibly the coolest 😎 “telescope” in the world. Thanks for posting. Paul -
Although, the “Indistinct Notch of Near Nothingness nebula” is very nearly as catchy..... Definitely a target for the imagers. Paul

19th December 16:25 hrs: Jupiter & Saturn 1/4 degree apart

Got a quick view hanging out of the bedroom window with my son’s mini Dob. Seeing was surprisingly steady all things considered 😁 Hope that others managed to catch this magical view. Paul -
Dark sky is what you need. It is almost impossible with my 16” Dob from home, but it has been done using far less from really dark sites. Paul PS the horse’s head is possibly the most underwhelming sight in astronomy. Don’t expect too much.

That is quite an advert for the APM range. @Ships and StarsDo you use them with a coma corrector? Paul
-
Thanks for posting. The observing guide PDF’s are particularly good. I Didn’t realise that the Flaming Star nebula is a visual target. Must give it a go next clear night. Paul

Well worth getting the scope out! I’ve got to try a Morpheus. Lots of people seem to be really enjoying them. Paul

I hit that slope and shelled out for a 21E. What marvellous views it gave. Then I sold it for exactly what I paid. It funded half a 16” dob😁. As good as money in the bank! Paul

I’m another SLV fan. Have used the 6mm and 5mm variants in a Dob. They are a tidy upgrade to the Starguiders and arguably sharper than the ES 82° shorter focal lengths (compared to the 8.8m ES). However, the 11mm ES 82° is probably the best of the range and is a very fine eyepiece. Saying that, Don’s Delite suggestion is well worth considering (at a price). Hope that this helps. Paul

From the current lineup - Delos 14mm for me. Comfortable, great contrast and lovely shaped stars all the way to the edge! From the long list of eyepieces that I have owned - the Ethos 21 was special and I enjoyed the planetary views with the Vixen SLV 6mm. Paul

Great write up. Glad that you got some time under the stars. Paul

Be careful with that Telrad in the sun. I left mine outside between rare back to back observing nights and half the rings melted off!!!! Paul -
Nothing wrong with a Quark when they are in song. The views are undeniably astonishing. Not sure that I would risk my hard earned cash though.... Paul

Clouds here. Good to catch the two giants in one fov! Must have been quite a sight. Paul

A PST Double stack shows slightly more surface detail than an unstacked Lunt 50mm, but as Peter points out the view is a lot dimmer. An unstacked Lunt 50mm beats an unstacked PST. I haven’t tried a double stacked Lunt side by side with a double stacked PST, but can vouch that a double stacked Lunt gives great views. Paul

Thanks Stu Didn’t know Ski Safari could do that! Paul
