  1. No Dob Mob!!!!! That is a shame. It won't be the same without them. There must be larger scopes than 16"?? I thought that there was an 18" Sumarian kicking around at the spring gathering. Either way, anyone wanting to show me how to use mine properly or gawp at some marginally brighter than usual DSO, are more than welcome. I'll pack an extra case of beer. Paul
  2. @DRT Wot you need now is a decent 16" OOUK to finish the collection. Knowing your hatred of owning sets of eyepieces, scopes etc....... They are great scopes & bases. Light and pretty good quality. Pauk
  3. Good challenge. Spotting them all is hard enough! Good luck Paul
  4. Speaking personally. It brings the likes of Mr Luckhust's creations into reach. When you read comments such as "for only a little bit more ....." I get to thinking.... These scopes were mentally out of my league, but now I have a buch of proper observers telling me that it is worth the little bit extra! Paul
  5. Oh the temptation...... One of these days a build will go swimmingly and I will be able to resist no longer..... After the mirror grinding, Damian deserves a smooth build. Hope that it has / will go well. Paul
  6. From memory. I believe that Telscope House list them. Hope that you are feeling rich!!! Paul
  7. From the sublime to the proverbial... My gourmet new solar finder! £5 plastic finder drilled out with objective replaced with a disc (with little hole) cut from a plastic ball tube top (the rest is the shield). Eye end - chuck away one lense, a couple of mins with some sandpaper on the other. Followed by some deft work with a Stanley knife to make the base fit and finished, rather stylishly, with some red electrical tape! Works a treat - NB. You don't look through it. The sun shows on the translucent back lense with zero magnification. paul
  8. Stop it ! I'm a huge Delos fan. 8, 12, 17.3..... valiantly resisting the 10 and/or 14mm. I haven't bought an eyepiece since yesterday (non green). The cravings shouldn't be starting yet! Incidentally, it turns out that the Delos 17.3 is not far off being parfocal with the Ethos 21mm (another fairly recent aquisition). They work beautifully together for Galaxy hunting in my f4.7 Dob. A really unexpected bonus! ?? Enjoy the new gourmet toys. Paul
  9. I'd like to see that into an overhead locker!!? I've got eyepieces bigger than some of these travel set ups..... Paul
  10. It doesn't have to be a specialist Astro unit. I use a Halfords own brand unit. It is 20Ahr so has plenty of grunt. You have the added benifits of a 240v socket, compressor, light and you can jumpstart cars at star parties (if you haven't lost the leads ....). Paul
  11. You could suggest that she paints a bit faster???
  12. Good thread. I have a quietly stacked case for the family camping trips. Picture on the way when I get back down south tomorrow evening. Paul
  13. Splendid Colection there Roberto. Love the Moonrakered Christen. Paul
  14. Interesting stuff re size. Me and my Dob like big eyepieces. My little 80mm Frac does not. As the scope's principal night time job is wide field, this is an issue. The scope / mount is balanced for a 450g eyepiece. The 27mm Panoptic seems to fill this gap nicely. As does the ES 28mm 68°.... The idea being that my travel setup is; SW ED80, Baader 8-24 Zoom & Barlow, a 27/28mm 68° And a Lunt Wedge. This will all go in the single scope case. Then my eyepiece collection will be complete (until the next time I have some spare cash). Paul
  15. Derek I thought that my case was looking good. Then you go and post a picture like that !!!! Bravo. Just because you have run out of space doesn't mean that you have finished shopping. If you like to have a couple of scopes on the go, might I suggest a zoom. Maybe something from the good people at Leica? Swapping eyepieces in & out on one scope is fine, but I find doing two is a chore.... Alastair has exposed several of us as being very weak willed (mine arrived today as well). Paul
  16. Time to update. Never the final itteration!! In : Ethos 21mm and Baader mkIII Zoom (with barlow) Outgoing : ES 82° 24 & 30mm (got to pay for the Ethos) To Get : Delos 10mm or 14mm once funds allow and more BCO's and UHC 2" and HBeta 1.25" then I'm done. Honest. With the arrival of the £££ "Big E", I'm going to have to be ruthless. The 30mm ES gets so little use due to the large exit pupil that it has to go. I have the ED80 that has a massive FOV for the really wide fields. The 24mm ES is lower mag and smaller Fov than the Ethos so sadly has to go. Again, I don't always get great contrast. So I am hoping that the higher mag of the Ethos will enhance the contrast a bit. I'm ashamed to say that I have never looked through the 28mm (completely forgot that I had it). It is light weight and shold pair up with the Zoom in the ED80 as a great travel setup. The zoom is also very good for the solar work with the Lunt wedge. Paul
  17. Oh well. I suppose that I can always sell it on. Incoming !!! I'm very very disapointed with myself. Paul
  18. The 13mm sounds great. Is the Ethos 21mm any good? Paul
  19. Errrr. Wow. This one has actually taken my breath away! Paul
  20. Damn you Shane!!!! I didn't know that the jump from the 12mm Delos to the 17.3mm bothered me until I read your post. Now I am craving the 14mm Delos. We all know the how this will end....... Paul
  21. Lovely bit of kit. Wires everywhere! I would call it "RoboDob". Good luck with the clouds. Paul
  22. I reckon that the ES 82° are rather splendid eyepieces. The 24mm is one of my most used. The is a fair bit of green in my case, but every time that an equivalent(ish) used Nagler comes up I just can't quite bring myself to swap it in.... Paul
  23. Pipnina A Dob needs to cool and be columated. So, yes, no screwing stuff together. But a little Frac on a simple manual mount already assembled is the fastest. I've got an ED80 on a AZ3 which stays up for most of the time. If I has to assemble from scratch, the dob would win hands down. Paul
  24. Hyperions can't be that bad? There are quite a few people on SGL who I would consider very experienced observers without pressing budgetary constraints who use thes
  25. Very nice Kerry I thought that the 30mm was a monster of an eyepiece. But next to the 20mm 100° ........ Paul
