Hi all

I've been interested in astronomy for a while now and get my scope out when i can,i also have a keen interest in photography have done for thirthy years.

i would like to get into astro photography but i think i have a big learning curve.

My current equipment is a Celestron nexstar 8se, and i have been looking at the Sky watcher syn trek equatorial mount.

Not sure if my current scope is good enough for astro i know i need a good equatorial mount.

Camera equipment

Canon 5d mk11

Canon 17-40 L

Canon 100-400 L

All the best

Tony

Hi Tony

Welcome to the forum!

Im a Brummy but I escaped last year :(

The 8se is a nice piece of kit. Great for Luna and planetary imaging as is with a basic Webcam setup and with the existing mount.

For more advanced Astrophotography, you will be needing to look into Focal Reducers, an EQ6, Guide Scope, Guide camera possibly a Off axis guider, Electronic focusing, and a whole heap of other bits an pieces.

Id get into a few moon shots with the DSLR to start with and a bit of Webcam imaging.

That will keep you busy for a few and start to introduce you to the world of Astrophotography without your bank manager getting involved :o

Hi Tony and welcome to SGL :o

You can always try your hand at imaging with short exposures around 30s and stack them. It depends on what level of AP you want to achieve, I have just started messing in this area my self and am thrilled with what I can get with around 180 exposures stacked to get a single image. Unfortunatly any exposure over 40s for me and it's game over I get star trails everywhere. My avatar pic thingy is M51 although my processing leaves a little to be desired it is tonnes better than my first attempt.
