OK so I've been registered and reading the forums for several weeks. Joined our local Astronomical society this month.

Had almost no opportunity to view anything due to the weather....

Looking forward to my first gaze through a real telescope, something I have never done!

Just on the Binos for now.

Contemplating an investment favouring SW 150P but still unsure about whether I should go for a dobsonian like skyliner 150p or 200p

Stil astounded at what people will pay on ebay for second hand items!! Wasn't ebay supposed to be somewhere to get a bargain. I think people get carried away with the bidding.....

Hi and welcome to SGL. There is plenty of advice available here if you need help deciding which would be the best scope for you and your needs, though you should also get some pointers from the astronomical society you have joined. The good thing about joining is that you will probably get to look through other members scopes and that may help you decide.

Hi ozwebuk.

Welcome to SGL and congrats on your first post lol.

ebay is no longer what it used to be, only a few bargins here and there.

I bought my first scope two weeks ago and have not had many clear skies (yet) so spend hours on here learning as much as poss for when allm the clear skies arrive.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Very few bargains on Ebay and is also highly commercialised. Glad to hear you've been doing the research, joining a club but - the weather, what a pain and unfortunately is a reality I'm afraid. When the seeing is good then all is forgiven so it's just a case of hanging on!:):D I will be predictable and say go for the 8" and it is likely when you go to an observing session that you will across this very scope so I would wait until then as itwill help inform your expectations.

Clear skies soon.

It kinda makes sense though. Telescopes don't wear out and are generally difficult to mistreat - unless you leave them out in the rain, or drop them. So there's not much functional difference between a 2 year old 'scope and a brand new one.

Having said that, there are a lot of greedy people on eBay - so it's always wise to look in the Advanced Search and tick the Completed Listings box, to see what others have actually paid, rather than what the seller thinks they can get
