  2. I bought an EQ mounted netownian as a complete novice and I have to say I seriously question anyone that says with any significant magnification they could manually move a DOB to track something. It's hard enough with the controls on an EQ mount...

  4. Yep I'm on this too, still finding my way. Looks liek scope needed serious collimation based on recent alignment by a soc. friend with a laser.... Hoping for better views next time I get the scope out

  22. Wozza welcome to SGL from someone who used to live in Somerset. You will find stacks of useful info on these forums, clear skies....
  23. Some great advice here, definitely try a local society but if you want to just try it out then try buying the book "turn left at orion" or similar and get some 10x50 or similar bino's. I picked omse reasonable ones up from Tesco direct. You'll be able to do some simple star gazing and if you are interested in seeing more you can carry on.
