How many telescopes do you own?

Four for me.
Takahashi TSA-120 is my main, does everything scope; Tak Epsilon 130d is my night vision scope (and testing how badly eyepieces perform at F/3.3): TV85 is for solar Ha, travel, and daytime use. And the little Tecnoski 60ED is for light travel and daytime use.

Lovely to see an Epsilon - maybe it’s because I’m not an imager but there don’t seem to be many about. You should put a photo on the Show us your Tak thread!

I remember my other half occasionally having concerns about the number of telescopes in the garage Dave, back when i owned six.

My perfect excuse, and 'trump card' was always, "well, i only own one of them........all the rest are society scopes, and i've been tasked with looking after them for a while....." 😉

I wish I'd have thought of that one Rob 😄

Just four for me:

  • Vixen 102M
  • Fullerscopes 8.5" Newtonian
  • ST80
  • 200P Dob

 Nice set there. Out of interest, how does the 200p compare with the 8.5”?

Just the 2 for me - Skywatcher 200P and the Orion Optics UK VX12L with the upgraded mirror. Needs only 3 strong people to lift it!

For now, I'm hanging on to the 200P for outreach. I really don't have the space for any more 😄20240305_180237.thumb.jpg.124a347320e06bc923e00eb4a6013dba.jpg

Amusingly enough, I was reading the side effects on a medication I am taking, and one of them is listed as ‘compulsive shopping’, so I have a medical excuse for my excessive scope collection! 🤪

Can I borrow some as I currently have no excuse for my compulsive Astro shopping! I am literally about to order more stuff and the binoculars only arrived yesterday!

From memory only, I'd say the Fullerscopes is sharper.

But I do need to get both out side by side to compare.

The Fullerscopes OTA and MKIII mount is a bit more of a commitment to move outside, so, with the recent weather hasn't been used much. In fact not at all since I bought the 200P.

Three scopes in total:

LZOS 105 mm/ @  6.25  (Very sharp, folds up very small)

A larger LZOS 130 mm @ f6

And a C11 before it was wrapped with insulation.

I seem to have a lot less scopes than other people posting in this forum., what scope next?

I have a suspicion that any larger than 130 mm APO's cannot really be pushed to their limits due to the seeing that the UK skies support, maybe a slower 130 mm?

A 16" DOB, well I could wheel it out the front, however not out the back as no access.

In size order:

1) Takahashi FS-60CB
2) Celestron 80ED f7.5
3) Takahashi FC-100FT
4) Helios 120mm f8.33 achro (solar)
5) StellaLyra 8" f4 M-LRN
6) StellaLyra 12" f5 Dobsonian

There, that's not too painful or excessive :tongue2:

Noooo, keep them all. You'll reget the loss.

You didn’t suggest increasing the total … which is what just happened.  Added a Skywatcher 127  Mak on the drive home last night. My partner is away in Manchester going to a concert with a friend, which only added to the temptation.

To the extent I have a defence, 6 of the 9 cost under £100 and 7 under £150.

I have a few (ED80, ED120, C6, OO 10") but really, really fancy a C11 ota. My goal to find one for the summer and next planetary season.

Currently I find myself having:
Konus Vista-80 (achromatic 80/400);
Skywatcher Maksutov 90/1250;
Celestron Nexstar 8 SE;
Vixen 102 M (achromatic 102/1000);
Ziel GEM 60 (achromatic 120/600);
Bresser 60/900 (achromatic);
Starfinder 8 (Newton 203/1200);
Konusuper 120 (120/1000 achromatic which I use diaphragmed at 90 mm due to a lateral splinter in the achromatic doublet);
Galileoscope (50/500 achromatic, given to me by an amateur astronomer friend);
Celestron Travelscope 70 (achromatic 70/400);
Stein optik 60/800 (achromatic sold to me used that I should fix, they sold me a bin!).
The ones I use the most are the Vista and the Maksutov 90/1250, the Nexstar mount supports them very well; I use the Vista for the sun (I bought a 50% discounted full-aperture glass solar filter years ago) and the Maksutov for the moon.
I forgot: I decided to calm down, I'll try not to expose myself to temptation (gulp!!!).

Let's see...

1) 250mm f5 GSO Dob. (The "FLT" or "Fairly Large Telescope" - doesn't get enough use, all the bits purchased for a future refurb).

2) Tak FC 100 DC + FT focuser - a forever 'scope - a winner on contrast, star presentation, colour fidelity & sweetspot between aperture & portability.

3) Tak FS 60-Q f10   (also used in CB mode at f5.9 alongside the 4" above as the "Winchester Small Telescope Array" or "WSTA").

4) ST80 + TS Optics 2" monorail focuser (whopping field, slightly retired due to FS60 purchase).

5) Towa "Topic" 339 80mm f15 (cracking 'scope but a bit long for my mounts, for sale in classifieds if anyone's interested...)

6) Clarkson 3" f15 (c.1909) "The Gentleman's Telescope" - a steampunk joy to use and an object of beauty.

7) Hilkin 60mm f13.3 (Also for sale)

8 ) Prinz 60mm f11.8  - an optical gem this one.

(+ Various finders &  bin's which I suppose are also telescopes. The Tak 6x30 finder would receive mention in dispatches here, often find myself lingering on it's crisp widefield views whilst orienting the main 'scope).

In reverse aperture order. Ones I have available.

OO OMC250.

OO Europa 200 F6 Newt

ST80

ETX70. - broken mount but use it for solar.

I also have a couple of Bimos etc

I have lent out

ST120

Celestron 114mm powerseeker. Not a great scope but good if you want to just use a telescope to learn the basics.

Cheers

Ian
