Thankyou all for the Welcome, much appreciated. 👍

First time out with my new scope (Evostar 90) last night and was very fortunate to have great  visuals/detail of the full moon.  I did spot something else (opposition the direction of the moon was a bright star which had an object moving across it to create an eclipse - I saw a diminishing crescent) which is puzzling me so am going to investigate.

What you saw was just Venus, which is currently showing a crescent phase. It wasn’t an eclipse of any sort, just a phase much like a crescent Moon caused by us viewing it from a different angle to the incoming sunlight ie its fully illuminated face is turned mostly away from us now.

Phone pictures attached showing how the phase changes (taken at different magnifications, the size difference is not real)

Thanks Stu, that’s great.  Fortunate again last night with clear skies & Venus was bright as ever.  👍 Also managed to see a range of other stars which provided bearings like Arcturus.
