Hi There,

Warm welcome to SGl. There are a number of groups in the area the nearest is http://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/ . They have a dark site in Wymeswold a short distance away from you. The best thing is to go to a meet, you will be able to see what others have and what may suit you best. A couple of books to help are 'turn left at Orion' and 'sky&telescope pocket star atlas', these will help guide you round the sky. Also download a planetarium program, plenty out there but try Stellarium, its great and free. To be found here :-- http://www.stellarium.org/

Hi and welcome to SGL :)

East Mids Stargazers is a great group for meeting up regularly and getting outside with scopes (when weather allows). Pop along to a meeting - you'll find them very friendly and helpful.

There's also Leicester Astro Society who meet at the Space Center every other Tuesday (except over the summer). Also Nottingham Astro Society meet at the Geological Survey headquarters at Keyworth. :)

Hi and welcome,

I live not too far from you and I work in Loughborough. I can also recommend East Midlands Stargazers.

SGL & EMS are the 2 astro forums I visit most often.  EMS is great because most members are local and great for meets.

Al
