my best ever run on Mars, totally out of the Blue

forecast said "No Chance" so had a few beers with some mates last night
just as I was going to head off to bed I looked out to see mars in clear sky so I thought why not

set up the scope only to be disappointed, the streetlamp at the bottom of my garden was right in my line of sight as you can see
well decided to give it an hour till mars had moved enough to get some shots and I'm over the moon with the results
Mars was behaving very well for a change and even on the screen I could see surface detail

this is the results from some of the runs I have processed so far

between 10,000 and 30,000 frames at 80 fps

here's the results

Nice captures oldpink! The albedo features really stand out well.

I'm really lucky, although we have horribly bright street lights that light up the bottom of our garden over 100m away from the lamp post itself, I set up in the shadow of the bungalow, so I have a relatively light free East - South - West view. I just loose the North view from about 5-10 deg below Polaris.

The best moments are guaranteed to happen at the most inopportune moments.

I had a similar beer hindered viewing session of Jupiter, where it looked clear(ish) so I dragged the scope outside not expecting much - I wasn't tired. All of a sudden, I was getting stable views through a 300 Dob at 340x magnification. I could see turbulent swirls in the edge of the cloud bands, that I've rarely seen imaged and certainly never viewed before or since.

It made me wish I'd stuck to imaging....
