hi oh fount of knowledge....

I love to search this site as all the replies are so useful and no question too basic to ask and the replies always patient and considerate.

most scopes , including mine are dull to look at . I have thought about some bright tape so I can see the wires and viewers better at night. However , I'd love to see any scopes which are dolled up to look like art . Any out there ?

I see where the issue is. The wonders are revealed when you look (or image) through the 'scope, rather than when you look at the scope.... :grin:

If you're worried about what your 'scope looks like you need to find a darker viewing site ....

The problem is, I won't be able to see the arty stuff on the scope if I am at the eyepiece in the dark....

Well I stuck a sticker of Jupiter on my scope since I ended up naming it Jumping Jupiter after accidentally dropping it around the first time I looked at Jupiter through it.

Haha, this got me thinking. My other hobby, building/painting plastic model kits, I have LOTS of paint, airbrush and pigments. Think a rusty ST80 guider might be cool ;-)

That is the perfect example of why the ownership of the item is almost as important as the functionality.

I mean, you could do that in rolled steel and knurled ali knobs for a fraction of the price, but you wouldn't rush outside to feel the brass, the weight and the craft even if the clouds are in, just for the chance of seconds at the eyepiece . You can probably best it in most circumstances with a big aperture Dob, but that would be to entirely miss the point. I'd give my one remaining spherical dangly to own the Wetherall frac, or even earn the money to make it a possibility.

Anybody who doesn't agree; Go buy a Ford.

I have a humorous vinyl decal on my dew shield.

I think it's a fun concept. I agree that they do look dull. Despite being scientific instruments I'd bet 99% of us ain't scientists. I'd like to see more 'jazzed' up scopes.

They do wraps for cars so no reason why you couldn't get a wrap for your scope. People have been pumping cars and computers for sometime though putting neon Lights on your dob might not be a good idea.

My wife has a Skywatcher Heritage 76, she saw it in a local camera shop window and thought it looked cute, eventually she wore me down and I brought it for her :rolleyes: . Now she's seen the above image shes threatening to buy some stick on gems to bling it up :eek:
