Hi, I've just joined the forum and thought I'd say hello. I've been here before but never posted as every time I google an astronomy question, you guys appear! I've been playing with my toy reflector that I was given as a gift for a year or so and have decided to upgrade to something more effective having tried a few bigger scopes at some Leeds astronomical society events. Im quite interested in having a go at astrophotography as we have a DSLR already and I've had so e success using my iPhone with a homemade mount to take some images of Jupiter and the moon.

Welcome to SGL - Astrophotography is a very different ball game from both visual observing and normal photography, anything you already know, forget!! If DSO's are going to be your bag (as opposed to planetary or solar) then you'll do well to get hold of a copy of 'Making Every Photon Count' available in the book section of the FLO website. It really explains what you need and why. Read it ............. twice or thrice, then decide how to best part with your ££'s!!

Sadly neither visual, planetary imaging or DSO imaging really benefits from the same kit - Expensive

Look forward to seeing you around

Welcome from another newbie. You've come to the right place for advice. There's so much equipment to choose from it's baffling starting out but there are many knowledgeable people on here willing to help us noobs out on our journey into the skies.

Ask questions, listen to the advice and have fun :D
