Jupiter & Callisto Nov 23rd

Had a quick late session this morning totalling 15 mins. Did not have time to collimate and scope had been cooling for 1 hour, Jupiter was down to 44 degrees elevation so not really ideal circumstances but if seeing is good anything is possible and despite fog and thin cloud being forecast (which it was when i first put the scope out) this had cleared and Jupiter was rock solid like a snooker ball.

After this shot I tried an extension tube but the result was much softer so think I will stick with this focal length.

Better than your GRS shots, the fine detail looks, finer still. As can be easily seen from the poles. I thought seeing was better, when I looked stars were not as violently twinkling. I tried to setup about 00.30 clouds came in shortly after. Good to see you getting some Joy. I would be pleased with this no question. Nice one.

Thanks guys!

Cheers Pete sounds like you've got some good data too look forward to seeing that!

Yep, seeing was better on this than the GRS shots Neil.  I nearly didn't bother going out when I looked through the window at 5am it was misty with thin cloud and knowing Jup would be getting low it seemed hardly worth it but I did want to try the IR 742 and extension tube so dragged my ass downstairs and quickly ran out with Dobby so he could be cooling while I grabbed a peanut buttie.  I did put the laser in and it was a bit off but didn't want to faff so carried on regardless.

I have a fair bit of data to work through Stuart. Hopefully I'll get something decent out of this session as the conditions were pretty stable. Maybe a while before I get chance to post anything though as our landline has been down and I've had no net for about a week. Seems to be taking BT ages to fix it.

Regards

Pete

Well what can I say Stuart, apart from stunning.... I stayed up late last night as the forecast was for clear skies, I gave it until 4am and gave up. Woke up in the morning to clear skies thinking I'd maybe missed something doh!!

Lovely images indeed.

I was out observing and showed the mrs Jupiter and the 4 Galilean moons. She wasn't impressed. My elderly neighbour came out for a peek and she was more enthusiastic than my wife.

Sry I digress. Fantastic pics.

Thanks for all your generous comments guys!

This will be the last of my images with the Dob for some time as it looks like I've ruptured the medial ligament in my knee. Hopefuly I may be able to use my little 5" Mak in a few weeks unless I need an op. Not a happy camper!

Sorry to hear that Stuart. I did something very similar myself a couple of years back...ruptured my ACL ligament. Still got to get it fixed at some point.

Hopefully you'll be ok in time for opposition with your dob.

Wish you a speedy recovery.

Pete

Thanks Pete I will know more when I see the specialist. How long were you imobilised for?

I was on crutches for a couple of weeks and then walking ok albeit with some sorenss and a limp. Probably a month before I could get around normally I would say. Need to have a keyhole op to fix it one day as it occasionally the knee pops out if I twist on it but otherwise I never notice it.

Pete.
