EQ8 unboxing and assembly

He He!......  Its here!!!!!

The new Skywatcher EQ8 Pro mount arrived yesterday from FLO and I couldnt wait to get in - like a kid at Christmas. I had it delivered to work, here at the Scottish Dark Sky Observatory so I could pretend I was working whilst playing..... I ordered the mount and pier without the polar scope - I didnt think the polar scope looked worth it, what with all the software routines that there are out there to help. I took pictures as I unpacked and assembled the mount although the uploader seems to have messed with the order - hope you like.

When assembled and my scope was mounted (an Orion Optics 8 inch F3.8 Newtonian), for.fun, I stood the new mounty next to m EQ6 Pro. She's a beast.....Cant wait for first light.

Fit and finish look superb - nice, matt black and stainless.

The gearing on the elevation axis is very heavy duty but still extremely smooth and I particularily like the head to pier attachment via a geared handle driving a spring loaded central bolt. The friction plate on the pier head still lets the azimuth adjusters move the head when the attachment bolts are quite tight - feels much better designed than the previous mounts.

So is this coming to Kielder, Robbie?

If so how about trying my C14 on it for a trial run?  I think the counter-weight shaft is the same as G11/CGE/CGEPro and I've got plenty of weights.  I think we'd get an audience for that!  How are you going to polar align - use the PHd routine.

If you want an audience dual mount my C11 with it.

Hi everyone.

It looks like standard grease not the usual glue.....

I will be selling tickets at £5 per gawp at Kielder :o)

My intention is to triple mount it with my c9.25, my ag8 and a Coronado sm40 or maybe a camera on a ball head.

Should be fun.....
