Hi Kbro and welcome to SGL, if you have been without a telescope for some time, that is sad news. Folks in the UK who have scopes, have not had as much chance to get out under the stars as normal, as the weather this year has been absolutely atrocious, 2012 will, no doubt, turn out be the wettest year on record, by the time it is done, many will be well pleased to see the back of it. Hope your fortunes turn out better for 2013 :icon_santa:

John.

thanks for all the welcomes. i was using a 80mm refractor but sold it last year. i have decided on a 150mm dob/reflector for my new one. nothing too fancy but just wanted to get back outside on cold winter nights and see the universe. i have always liked astronomy but it wasnt until i saw jupiter with its moons with my own eyes that i became hooked!!

Sounds like meeting up with an old friend! Jupiter has anthis amazing effect and I think I was more impressed by it than my first peek at Saturn. I had a cheap telescope in Idaho when I was 18 but then have only recently bought a telescope again at 46! You know: I can't for the life of me remember what I got a view of back then! Don't think I saw any planets but must have viewed Orion and some of the other major sights. Clear skies over there!
