  1. Just a thought regards earlier post about the camera/usb possibly playing up... I used to use a 550d modded with a 130PDS on an EQ3 Pro a few years ago before I sold the lot to help with costs of our wedding but before doing so and after some frustration with the camera conking out randonly both when just connected and also whilst usong BYE, I discovered that when using a 10 metre USB extension cable for some reason the distance to camera seemed to lower the signal/output and after I replaced it with a usb cord with 'signal booster' attachment (still really cheap on fleabay) the problem immediately went away. Worth a try??! Scott
  2. Telescope imaging flip mirror. An impulse buy a couple of months ago & it has been out of the box to try it but I have decided to just attach my camera directly to the OTA, so can't see me using this really. It hasn't even been outdoors! It is unmarked & in 'as new' condition. Unbranded, but identical in size and features to the flip mirror sold by Orion, so it is likely made in the same place. I'll let it go for £55 incl postage. Comes boxed, with adjustment allen keys and all caps/extension pieces etc. If you check out the features of the Orion flip mirrors, this is identical. It is possible to bring the eyepiece part to the same focal plane as the camera sensor. I will protect it well for posting which will be Royal Mail recorded. Paypal 'gift' payment or direct bank transfer - I don't mind. PM me for details etc. Cheers... Scott
  3. Peeps... anyone got a set of 70mm tube rings ie those provided with SW Capricorn refractor? I'm specifically after the one with the 1/4 20 screw, but more than happy to get the pair if simpler. Condition unimportant so long as they are intact and not rusty. Cheers :)
  4. Cheers James. I have thought of that already - basically taking off a bit at a time so I don't go too far. I guess I'm just looking for a solid start point as it will need to be a precision job and the more times I have to cut, the more times I can [removed word] it up
  5. I always found trying to focus with a DSLR/lens very finnicky. I also found that setting the lens to 'infinity' very often was not 100% accurate. Best advice I can suggest is turn AF off and just use manual focus, set to infinity and be prepared to adjust the focus ring a tiny amount each time. I once used a 70-300 on a Pentax DSLR and ended up making my own Bahtinov mask to achieve focus but even then it was a faff. You might struggle with an 18-55 unless you can zoom right in on live view?
  6. Hello all. As a lifelong stargazer and previous participant in the great halls of SGL, I have returned to the fold and very quickly encountered an 'issue' I'm hoping to get some kind advice on please?? So firstly...hello again everyone. It's nice to be back I took a couple of years away from this brilliant hobby fully intending to get back in again when the time was right. Well, in January I was involved in an accident and had a serious leg fracture. I treated myself to a fairly cheap, but enjoyable Celestron LCM 80 to do a bit of visual from the confines of the back garden whilst mincing about on crutches and one thing led to another... I have since added an ST80, all manner of EP's and bought a cheap but strangely enjoyable Bresser Skylux 70/700. As a previous practicer of the dark arts, I ended up adding a camera into the mix and have taken some half decent 30 sec subs & got some pleasant enough shots of a few DSO's. Now, my problem that I'm hoping to get some tips on is this... I've decided to cut the Bresser down a bit. I have an Orion flip mirror (mirror box is 3 inches long) and when rigged up, all is within the weight limit of the LCM but I just don't quite have the inward focuser travel needed to bring the EP/camera to focus. I reckon a bit of careful cutting of the optical tube will do the trick, but my query is this. If I'm about 1" shy of focus with the flip mirror, can I take off 4 inches without ruining the scope?? I'm thinking the length of the mirror box will cancel out the shortening of the OTA and the extra inch will allow the whole thing to focus with minimal outward travel - keeping it stable. I've already cleaned & blackened the lenses and modified the rack & pinion to make it stiffer, more stable and generally better to use. I know there is maths involved but rather than give myself a headache, I thought I'd come to you guys again. And before anyone laughs about using the LCM for AP, having been the proud (and sometimes frustrated) owner/user of an autoguided EQ rig before I know what the LCM mount will and wont do, and its surprisingly good fun getting some 30 sec subs with a rig that takes me about 3 minutes to set up and take apart. All suggestions welcome. And it's good to be back. Clear skies Scott Cloudy Stoke on Trent
  7. Still for sale. This is the very last thing from my whole kit. Anyone interested?? Help me out folks
  8. Skywatcher 6x30 right angled erect image finderscope, with mounting foot/bracket and both end caps. Used a handfull of times only and stored in a dry, clean house. Superb condition! Will be well protected for posting - Royal Mail recorded. Paypal gift or bank transfer please. PM me for details. Will sell for £25 incl. postage. ** SOLD* * Cheers....
  9. Hi all, For sale, used but superb condition Orion 'Magnificent' Mini autoguide scope and camera package. Purchsed from the International Astronomy Show brand new two years ago and used very little since! Guide scope has focal length of 50mm and has already been focused to make stars bloat ever so slightly, enabling the guide camera to lock on and stay locked!! Comes with power lead, ST4 guide cable (to plug into a Synscan/tracking mount), camera to computer USB lead and additional 5 metre long signal boost cable, end cap and installation/software disc. From a clean, dry home and never stored outdoors or mishandled/exposed to poor weather. These are well over £320 new now to purchase, so get a tried and tested one for a lot less. **SOLD** Will be very well protected for posting which will be Royal Mail Special Delivery. One of the last things left from my imaging kit I've sold on here lately. PM me for details etc. Paypal gift payment or bank transfer - don't mind which
  10. Scope, Astronomik CLS filter & Twin mount bracket now sold. Full Spectrum DSLR, Autoguider kit, zoom EP & diagonal, and finderscope still for sale. Open to sensible (very sensible!) offers peeps.
  11. Hi William, It's not the scope, as I have tried a Pentax DSLR without issue. The only thing I can think of, is rotating then does not use the edge of the sensor that is misaligned. I very first used the camera with a coma corrector on a SW 130 PDS and had the same issue, where there was none with the Pentax. The scope was checked by Bernard at Modern Astronomy and is spot on. I stipulated this when I bought it. Cheers Scott
  12. Hi Pete. Swivel screen = no. Live view = yes. It also can zoom in onto your chosen star quite a bit in live view which aids greatly in focusing.
  13. Re-advertised astro imaging kit for sale again (minus the mount which I sold last time). The photo’s are of the rig assembled, but this time I’m splitting it all, so have a look and see what you need. I will accept Paypal gift payment or bank transfer (preferred). All items will be very well protected for posting which will either be Recorded or Special Delivery – all Royal Mail/Parcelforce. I will send you tracking numbers when posted etc. PM me for details, questions and so on..... 1) TS 65mm quadruplet flat field OTA. This is a 420mm focal length f6.5 refractor, purchased from Modern Astronomy in June 2014. Some of these had pinched optics and image quality issues. Not this one! This has a superb, rich and flat field of view and has been used exclusively for imaging since I bought it, being easily managed by an EQ3 SynScan mount with only one counterweight. Comes with caps, dovetail bar fitted (and balanced) and carry handle/piggyback bracket. Takes 1.25” and 2” EP’s and has been used with my Canon Eos 500d with M48 2” adapter (also for sale). These retail from Teleskop Service now for well over £700 new. Would prefer collection (Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs), but can post at additional cost, so long as you take into account the risk. ** SOLD **£380 * SOLD ** 2) Skywatcher 8-24mm 1.25” zoom eyepiece (worth £50) with erect image star diagonal fitted (cost £40) and an 82A 1.25” filter ready fitted (can’t remember the cost but a good few quid). The eyepiece is well used, but in perfect working order and the eyecup can be removed to allow a camera to be screwed on for afocal camera work. Diagonal is as new, as is filter. Will be well protected for posting – Royal Mail Special Delivery. **NOW SOLD = £50 NOW SOLD ** 3) Orion twin shoe mounting bracket. Has held autoguider & finderscope to the OTA and aside from the usual tiny marks as a result, is otherwise as new. Cost me over £50 two years ago from the IAS in 2015. Will come boxed and well protected. Royal Mail recorded delivery.**SOLD **£35 **NOW SOLD** 4) Skywatcher 6x30 finderscope and bracket/foot. Will be well protected, Royal Mail recorded delivery – all in at £25. 5) Orion ‘Magnificent’ mini autoguider package, consisting of 50mm guide scope & autoguide camera (worth well over £300). The autoguider comes with all power leads, ST4 guide cable to plug into a Synscan or similar mount, camera to computer lead, installation software disc and end cap. I am also including a 5 metre USB to computer signal boost cable. The guidescope is set up already and adjusted to make stars bloat ever so slightly, meaning the camera locks on the fainter stars and stays locked. Has seen only light use since I got it too!! Will be boxed and well protected for posting which will be Royal Mail Special Delivery. Total including postage = £215. 6) Astronomik CLS CCD Canon Eos clip in filter. Cost well over £100 new and purchased from the IAS in 2015. Has sat inside a full spectrum Canon Eos 500d. Comes with original packaging & is unmarked and little used. Will be well protected for posting – Royal Mail Special Delivery, ** SOLD ** £80. ** NOW SOLD ** 7) Full spectrum modified Canon Eos 500D 15mp DSLR. Comes with 2” nose piece (fitted with M48 ready) x4 batteries, genuine Canon AC mains adapter, computer to camera USB cable with additional USB booster cable, and M48 & M42 adapters. (The bag and Astronomik pictured are not included. The bag I'm keeping, the Astronomik is for sale above). This camera I bought a couple of years ago from Ebay. There is an issue with the camera, which was evident when I bought it. I think whoever modified it, put the sensor back in slightly misaligned or not level, as in some orientations when fitted to the OTA, the images come out blurred to one edge about 10% of the image area. However, I have discovered that rotating the camera 45 degrees either direction when mounted to the TS 65mm OTA rectifies this. It’s not major, but worth noting. (This is a camera issue not OTA as I’ve used a Pentax DSLR without this problem). However, this is still a great value piece of kit with excellent, low noise levels at 800 iso. Will be well protected for postage – Royal mail Special Delivery all included, total = £110. PM me for details etc but please be patient if I don’t respond straight away as I work shifts. I advertised this a while back in January and some of my kit sold then. All together, has been stored indoors in spare bedroom since new and everything with the exception of the Canon camera was purchased new by me and never mishandled or exposed to anything other than clear, cool skies! To a good home only therefore please I am very sad to see the gear go and it has taken me several years to amass it all, but I just don’t get the time to enjoy it. All the best, Scott
  14. Mount sold payment pending (thanks Nigel G), so just the OTA, autoguider & full spectrum camera left.
