Then and Now.

I thought this would be a neat topic for our newest astro-imagers. Just to give the new folks some inspiration, and to help them through any frustrations they may be having about their pictures or show them that it only takes a little time and practice.

Here is my very first image I took of Jupiter, and my most recent. Lets see how many of us still keep our first attempts. :)

Then:

That's great!

Could you share some wisdom about the key lessons you have learned that allowed you to progress to the 2nd image?

And this is the very latest animation:

Dror

How do you post your pictures in this format? I'd really like to produce a snap shot like that with a few images in it.

A set of four from me. All from a 127 Mak and SPC900, but as I've become more confident I've kept increasing the focal length to give a bigger image. Top left was taken some time in early spring 2011. Top right was 29th October 2011. The bottom ones are from 14th October and 14th November 2012.

Wow, this is a great idea and yes it does serve as inspiration for all us newbies. It is amazing to see how much better the images can get esp. using the same equipment! Can this be made 'sticky'?

It also shows just how much can be gained by simply reading and talking to people on SGL!

This was last winter, first ever planetary effort enlarged using in camera digital zoom & post processing software, my second effort, Jupiter from last night (morning of 25th Nov) under very poor conditions but this time using a x2.5 powermate and bahtinov mask with basic processing - image native size

both using C11 & GH2 micro four thirds camera with video, first basic mpeg format , second AVCHD (Advanced Video Coding High Definition)

The improvements are down to experience, practice, weather conditions, and the addition of a UV/IR filter. Both 90 second videos with the same Trust 380 Spacecam and a TAL x2 barlow.
