There are still 20 standard pitches left! I assume this is what we're talking about? http://www.starparty.org.uk/

I've never been to this event. Is it really good? I can't make up my mind but I have to be sure!

That's the one, which field are those pitches on?

KH website says there is no availability for tents for the whole week surrounding the event ...

and it always sells out almost immediately :) (Hence booking Sep 11 for Sep 12!)

Quoted as the biggest star party in Europe I think last year?

Phenomenally dark skies ;)

Well, they have pitches left for phone bookings! They're booked up on the Website as they like to keep some free, so I've made up my woolley mind and have booked the Friday and Saturday! This'll be my first Kelling heath! I'll be in the Butterfly area, pitch 279. Not the best as it's behind the southern trees, but better than nothing.

See you guys!

I am booked from Thursday to Monday

Pitch number T354

Had a ball last year and extended my stay for a whole week as the weather and skies were fabulous. Even got some brief aurora thrown in on the Monday evening.

Wednesday to Sunday on pitch T352 (the Red field). It's a huge event with about 500-600 astronomers. Having been to 4 SGL star parties and 5 Kelling Heath star parties I have found that it is not as intimate as SGL, but with superb skies, great facilities, a wicked Astroboot on the Saturday it 's a great event.

I would summarise it thus. For me, SGL is about socialising with some learning and great observing/imaging thrown in. Kelling is for great observing/imaging with some socialising and learning thrown in.

I'm travelling down from Aberdeen for a week, staying in one of the cabins (tiddler in tow...and wife only does Glamping...) so will be begging for somewhere to setup the GP-DX and ED103... anyone got a little space?
