Naming your telescope

Mine is named the TARDIS

One of the guys from the astro group I'm with has several scopes including a 16-inch Dob and a 66mm William Optics apo refractor called Big [removed word] and Little Willie respectively.

Mine's called Selene, after the ancient Greek goddess of the Moon and daughter of Hyperion & Theia

Very strange, me and the other half normally name everything, Boris BMW, Spartacus the Street Ka, Bernie bin, Cuthbert the computer....you get the idea. But I have never named any of my scopes. Shall have to have a think about that and put it right

Trouble is that is four, soon to be five names! Eeeeek!

i see it much the same as naming a dog/cat. At the end of the day, an astronomers 'scope is as much a loved possession as a family pet, so why not name it - just don't go shouting out the 'scopes name when it trips you up whilst your stumbling about in the dark!

Mine hasn't been named but my girlfriend made a heart out of my left over flocking material and stuck it on the side! I don't want to take it off, however, I'll probably cover it up if I go to a star party!

As soon as my C11 came out of the box it was called Fat Bob, I don't know why it just felt right

My wife calls my observatory the "Wendy House"...not very flattering I know, and it drove me mad to start with..the really sad thing is..I've started to call it the same!

So now everyone in the house knows where I'm going when I say I'm off to the Wendy House....

I call mine "Slippy". I pray whenever I use it...that the clutches don't slip after a 3 star alignment.

Mine are called "the 12 inch", "the 8 inch", "the 100mm" etc.

Mine is called Marlene because she's long thin and sexy. My mount is Called Sammo, because he's beefy and, um, Chinese.

That's very weird because all of mine are called franco: franco I,franco II,franco III and franco IV Esq.

I've named mine Brian Cox and signed it so it knows. Can't do any harm when I decide to sell it.
