  1. Hi welcome to SGL from Pete in Bedfordshire 🙂
  2. Hi welcome to SGL from Pete in Bedfordshire 🙂
  3. Its been a while since i owned my Coronado PST scope, but i seem to remember it being very close to not focusing in the inwards direction. I had to use a very short eye piece adaptor for the DMK21 camera i was using at the time. Maybe things have changed somewhat since then, with the newer ZWO cameras etc....especially with being able to screw direct to the diagonals on the Lunt's. Maybe this would possible with the PST?
  4. Very interesting to see the difference between the 2 images, the 2nd one is a good improvement.
  5. Superb end result, very interesting to read the processing journey as well.
  6. Excellent image, some lovely details visible there.
  7. Superb image Harvey. we all need a bit of luck, but its skill that delivers images like this when "luck" is on our side occasionally. As i have said before i don't like the term "lucky imaging" luck plays a small role in images like this in my opinion 🙂
  8. A fine set of images there, lovely level of detail visible while looking very natural.
  9. Stunning looking image, very apt for the time of year as well.
  10. Superb images, very nicely captured. I got a fleeting view of these and as has been said they around for a few days .
  11. Looks a very respectable end result to me @mcrowle Comets are pretty tricky targets in my experience to capture and process.
  12. Always really cool to see Mercury, not hard to see if you know where to look. I have pointed to quite a few people over the years and they are always surprised how easy it is to see it, when pointed in the right direction. I have never managed a really decent image though.
  13. Looks a beauty, not very familiar with the scope myself. A quick Google showed similar conversations being had (on here 🙂 ) and other sites 16 years ago regarding performance and rarity of 2nd hand scope for sale, just shows it has stood the test of time. Congratulations @bosun21 on your purchase, Look forward to hearing about the 1st light.
  14. Feels like its been the poorest year so far, in terms of cloud cover and opportunities for me.
  15. Interesting development, especially for outreach events. Jupiter and Saturn are always going to be popular with viewers new to astronomy.
  16. I have very fond memories of seeing it in 86, through a 4.5" Tasco reflector. Nothing particularly spectacular to the eye, but such an historic object, depicted many times though the worlds history. Very special to have seen this as a young 20 year old, after a few weeks of looking for it using the book i bought at the time (which i still have) The Tasco has long since departed along with many hopes and dreams, but the memories still remain of this enduring object 🙂
  17. Once you have the finder aligned , use a long FL eyepiece to centre the planet. Have the exposure setting very high, when you put the camera in to the telescope and you should see a large out of focus disc as you insert the camera. You can then adjust position as required. The more you practice the easier it gets. Aligning the finder scope is an essential part of the scope set up, whatever you are doing. 10ms should be fine as long as the seeing is not too bad. It might be referred to as lucky imaging, but there is nothing lucky about planetary imaging.
  18. i have been using a similar time of around 9-10ms, but a histogram of 70%, i will definitely try a higher one next time out.
  19. A fine looking image, especially considering its current position.
  20. So hard to know just how good or bad the data is, then where to stop with it
