  1. Thanks Dave for the a, laugh b, warning c, encouragement to binoview, you know I am tempted. Also good to see you finding what Mike knows and has told us many times is spot on.
  2. Oh yes, that’s my style. Then sit thinking, why the ****@@%%+&(&5+5=5(=5( did I just do that
  3. A bit like the inherent flaws in reflectors and any other optical design I suppose 😝
  4. @johninderby that is interesting about Lanthanum in Vixen ED scopes, I have a ED103s so that may be something I already experience already and explain the perceived improvement over my old SWED100.
  5. I raised the issue of undercuts with David Nagler at Astrofest last week, asking why produce kit with undercuts? He smiled and then explained why they are so good for stopping eyepieces falling out, I said no, they make things catch and fall or get dropped, he insisted on showing all TV kit working well, which it did, no catching, but it’s all matched kit. The problem is non standardisation, we mix and match kit, problems arise, he smiled again and said, simple solution buy all TV kit, we parted smiling after I said, I still dislike undercuts. The initial look on his face showed I was not the first to raise the subject.
  6. So pleased, just bagged Mercury from the patio doors and then Venus with naked eye and the 10x50's. Members of my club were on a look out now, but I could not get to the site on time. Hurray for my patio doors and step.
  7. As per the title, A question for all you optical gurus on the Stella Maria telescopes from @FLO, but more so the doublet as that's what I know. To be clear, 'this is asked from curiosity on the new glass combination' which by all accounts is superb and has no intent to be odd about this most interesting and equally curious scope for us visual observers, it's different, which is a good thing in my book. What purpose does the 'Lanthanum' element play or bring to the party with the FPL53 ED element? I ask in genuine curiosity as its a new glass combination to me as far as I know, or have i missed others done like this before? The main second question is how much does the longer FL 800mm and ratio of f10 play in making a beautiful image here? TIA for your replies folks.
  8. Would you look at that, Its at APM in Germany. Fluorite Triplet.
  9. @mikeDnight as always your reports / recollections have me hooked. I am between yourself. @F15Rules and others moving towards a binoviewer with my very fine ED103s Vixen. One question on the pseudo Masuyama's, were any made with rubber eye guards at all? It is something that I 'need' to be present on an eyepiece.
  10. But sadly now gone or I have got dodgy eyes.
  11. I have just seen the what the postman delivered thread John, so now can see the carry box. That is one really neat package.
  12. Great stuff, enjoyed looking. Is this stacked from video? Sorry, not my thing presently, so asked from total ignorance and interest.
  13. Now that Mr H is a match made in the heavens, wonderful. So pleased for you to find one of these mounts.
  14. Louis, the UK being tiny compared to the US is overflown in most areas and laser pointers are a definite no no where planes fly, the CAA take a very dim view on skyward pointing lasers.
  15. That is grand to watch, thanks for the search and share. Good old Ring doorbell saves the day.
  16. Looking good John, very good. Can you stop buying kit that I like as well now, this may be getting very expensive. One question, the 9x50 finder, what make are the rings and foot, looks rather nice.
  17. I think the second part of virtual Welsh Cakes is a good companion for the Milk from Andrew, all you need is virtual hot water and tea bags now
  18. Thanks for the thread, interesting the directions we head off in related subjects to our hobbies. Stamps are not my thing, but I can see the interest in related matter, one of my Astronomy club shared his Astro cigarette card collection with the members recently and that was highly interesting too.
