Hello! I'm brand new here and just got my first ever telescope tonight and got to look at the moo. Really up close and a star? Northwestern sky around 9pm eastern standard time. It was very bright. I got an entry level celestron astromaster 130eq. I am a complete noob to this but very hooked. I am open to any and all knowledge. Thanks for any help and have a great night

Hi and welcome to SGL - Glad that you found us and hope that you enjoy your time here. Download Stellarium a planetarium programme and you will be able to see what the bright thing was in the sky. If you'd said GMT then I'd have said Venus, but not sure with the Eastern time thingie.

Look forward to seeing you around :)

Ok so I dow the stellarium app and from the spacing from the moon the bright light I watched has to be Venus, but In my scope it was white and looked lIke the sun does with the flares and constant movement. Is that what Venus looks like in a scope?
