Newbie battling against the Heathrow glow!

Hi All,

I've long been an admirer of the night sky and have finally purchased my first telescope It's a pretty basic one (Konuspace-6, 60mm refractor) but any tips would be greatly appreciated.

One problem I've got is that I live roughly 500 metres from Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport so I've got quite a lot of light pollution to contend with! I'd love to hear from anyone who lives in the area who could advise me on some good viewing locations locally that are dark but safe!

Hi James and welcome, I've never found my Light Pollution filter particularly useful, though my skies won't be as bad as yours so worth giving a try - onthe other hand, I bet you get great views of the planes!

Best accessory I can think of for your LP issues is a car.

Where I live (Sutton) LP is awful too so I drive away from London to use my scopes.
