The pang of regret at parting with a much loved ‘scope eased by knowing its going to a good home and by the excitement of heading over to meet up with @astro_al to pick up his lovely Takahashi FS60-Q, complete with Feathertouch focuser. Inevitably cloudy tonight but it’s all looking good on the mount! Yes great to meet you Mark, a gent! I'm very pleased to have your Mak127 ... the weather forecast is annoying though! That set up looks good now Mark! SuburbanTak indeed!

I bet that 30mm UFF will be good in the FS60Q 👍

The 30mm should give me 3.5 degrees in Q mode and just under 6 degree field in CB, widefields all round! I’ve lots of exciting options to test out once the sky clears, hadn’t registered with me that the Feathertouch will fit on the DC so thanks for that nugget too.

Now I will be able to stay in the warm while my DSLR+lens continues its EAA experiment outside assuming I can find some software that will work on my old win7, NINA wants win 10 or 11, and Sharpcap protests that my processor lacks an instruction set ( that's a new one, never had that before ! ) Starting with when I ordered it the Metoffice has reported and is continuing like this for the next week at least. What I want to know is : how did the cloudgods know that a humble usb cable was going to be used for Astro? I blame them for dabbling in AI ??!

With all these new telescopes though we have pretty much guaranteed cloud for the foreseeable! Oh I expect CNs for a looooong while! I've got the Hyperion I mentioned on its way ... in fact along with several others! All bought from another member. I'm also waiting on FLO having ordered the gtix and decent tripod, extension tube and dovetail...... hopefully all the bits needed for the new double set up (st120 and mak127), although I'm sure to have forgotten some screws or something that will have me even more frustrated! While spending far too much at FLO I pushed the boat and added a 1.25" X 32mm plossl for some low mag searching with the Mak. Just an astro essentials so not costly but judging by the reviews they seem well regarded, even bargain category. From what I read 30-32mm in a 1.25" is the longest FL before the FOV gets restricted, otherwise I'd have looked for a 40mm. With all that on the way it'll be cloudy for quite a while! 😂
DirkSteele
Technically I was the postman as I picked these bad boys up at AstroFest yesterday. Looking forward to trying them out.
DirkSteele
Actually forgot to add these to the thread last week. Two books and a tripod riser (that was very expensive for what it is but wasn’t prepared to sacrifice any stability) because the Sightron mount impacts the top of the Gitzo tripods due to their triangular top surface (apparently for extra rigidity) so I needed an inch of extra clearance. Seems like a bit of a design oversight really. Edited February 4 by DirkSteele Typo, what else?

Greymouser
Got this a few days ago, only posting now because I have been so busy. F5 Newtonian, bought to test myself regarding collimation, as I have been considering going large! ( Aperture fever... ) I have had a F5 newt in the past, a Skywatcher 150p, but it came perfectly collimated and stayed that way, so I was never tested. I also got a Cheshire and a cap to aid things. I will probably be seeking advice, when I finally get to try it out! Of course, my plans may now be changed, after seeing various peoples results with the Seestar!

mikeDnight
The postman brought me something this afternoon, a Vixen APZ. And although I haven't used it in anger as yet, it certainly appears to be very nice both mechanically and aesthetically. The instruction manual says "This Way Up!" in Japanese.
