Size comparison

Recommended Posts

In this corner of the dining room lurk my three larger aperture scopes - the 300mm F/5.3 dobsonian, 200mm F/6 newtonian (which is new to me) and the 130mm F/9.2 triplet refractor. The latter has it's focuser and dew shield retracted so it's length is deceptive.

Wish the clouds would go away so that I can use them more :rolleyes2:

Quite a size difference between the 300mm and the 200mm isn't there ?

Very nice John. I would never be allowed to have my scopes in the dining room. The 12" OTA is in the corner of the downstairs toilet. I am currently restoring  an old Helios 6" Frac and Pam said 'I hope that is going in the garage'.

Looking at the 8" Orion OTA I so wish I kept my VX8.

Crikey! That's a huge difference. Hard to believe that's an 8" next to it. My 6" Newt would look like a pea shooter. I had planned to eventually get at 12", but I'm wondering now.....! Guess I need to see one in the flesh.

Is f5.3 the usual f ratio for a 12”?

OO do either the VX12L at f5.3 or VX12 at f4. The standard Synta/GSO are f4.8.

You should have seen my OO VX12L f6! This is next to an OMC200 (8” f20 Mak)! I wonder where that scope is now? It had 1/11th wave optics, very nice but BIG!
