Wriggle or Nigel?

Daft question and I think my mind is set on the wrong one anyway but is it Rigel or Rigel? Wriggle or Nigel? That lovely double in Orion

I don’t think I’ve ever said it out loud, but in my head it was Rye Gel .... until JohnInDerby’s link and now I’m embarrassed and wished I hadn’t typed this reply.

Oh I like that Glob- like Nigella- more emphasis on the second syllable. I might start calling it that. Nigel just sounds odd to me. I probably should stop calling it wriggle anyway 😬

Here's the top and bottom halves of a page about the pronunciation of constellations and stars from my old 1964 edition of Norton's Star Atlas.

According to Norton's the i is as in ice, and the phonetic pronounciation is either rye-gell or rye-jell.

This is interesting, I've read about Rigel for years and observed it and the surrounding areas many times but I had the pronunciation wrong.

As this is such a specialist hobby I don't know anyone else who I chat with much about it and I don't watch much in the way of videos about it, so for this and I guess most other things I have assumed the pronunciations in my head and I guess I will be wrong on a lot of them!

I'd say above is correct pronunciation (watch the clip and listen to their names).
