What did the postman bring?

Took a chance and got a good deal on 2nd hand (but in very good condition) Celestron 6/8 SE goto mount. Been looking for one to get for a while as used to have one before but sold it on. Just testing it out with some solar observations. Seems to be tracking the sun nicely. Always liked the fact with this mount you could do a solar system alignment rather than having to use the stars. Great for daytime if you want to nab Venus. Got a smaller Mak that will fit on this nicely for when I need to get near to zenith, plus my C8 too as well! 😃

If I didn’t have a C8 OTA I would have gone for the same 4/5SE version too and just used the smaller Mak on it mainly.

Just received two flight cases, which I got for just about 28£ delivered.

The right one might be a little small so going to try to replace it with a similar one as the left one or perhaps even the size larger. If that's not possible, then I'm sure I'll find a use case for it at some point ;)

Great mount Gus!  Mine came with the 8SE, but I also use it with the little ED80 frac (almost to zenith) and even the 102S frac (taking care not to aim too high).

I often align with the Moon or a planet, but otherwise I tend to just use one star, and this works well, esp. if I stay in the region of the alignment star.

Doug.

Definitely! They feel quite solid. However, I'm probably going to disappoint you as they were bought on sale from a local hardware store in Denmark 😅

Get in! I didn't have to pick this up myself either 😅. So excited about this purchase - my first step toward astrophotography. What a quality piece of kit 😁

Quick question if you don't mind, but how long is that with the dew shield out?  I've been trying to Google to find out but could only find the focal length...

More printed material through the letter box today, for double star observing courtesy of the Webb Deep Sky Society. The charts are tear proof & waterproof. The book has some excellent sketches and info for a good chunk of constellations.

Strange my copy although being Volume 2 does not have the map on the front or anywhere.

A pocket powerbox advance and a pegasus PSU 12V / 10A –  120W. Just the one PSU now rather than 1 each for the mini pc, powered hub and mount. Seems a nice piece of kit. Think i'll spend a couple of hours practicing cable management.

Hi Wookie. The double star charts were a seperate item bought off them, not part of the double star atlas I got from them.

Dew shield out? Might have mistaken you, but measured the OTA to be approx 590mm from front of dew shield to fully racked in focuser. HTH?
