Watching the countdown from JPL, the end of a truly historic mission, we are privileged to have witnessed it.

Watching too, looks like it's already over, NASA stating " Cassini plunged into Saturn's atmosphere and disintegrated about 3:31 a.m. PDT (7:31 a.m. EDT) on Sept. 15, 2017. "

Just an hour to wait until the final transmissions reach home.

A little bit of Frankie will get you by ?. I'm upset that there's been no sign of Carolyn Porco on any of the coverage. For me she's been the voice/face of the mission.

I remember signing a postcard back in the 90's and sending it in to the planetary society. Strange to think that long with the awesome Cassini probe my digitized name has just been vaporized!!!

It was a very poignant moment watching  live as the signal flickered and disappeared from first one, then both bands.

Very sad, but what a proud moment for the engineers and scientists - so much achieved.

I will always think of Cassini when I view majestic Saturn in my humble telescope in the dark peacefulness of the night.

How lucky we are to be alive in this golden age of exploration!

Thank you Cassini, you will live forever in our hearts and memories. The fact that Cassini was sending its final transmission made me cry. What a true LEGEND

It was a Brilliant & Spectacular End to an Era i would say.

Cant wait to see what they do with follow up missions to the moons Titan and Enceladus though, could be very interesting.
