  1. Thank you @ONIKKINEN. That's excellent advice. I shot the image last night and I think it was at 36deg maximum and yes the session spanned the horse head crossing the meridian. Camera was an ASI585MC, so yes an OSC. I hadn't really spotted the opposite red half halos until you pointed it out but all makes sense. I will try both your suggestions and let you know how I get on. Thanks again for taking the time to help me 👍
  2. Hi all, I noticed these semicircular blue halos on the bright stars. This image was taken on an Evoguide 50ED. They are all on the same side. Is it chromatic aberration? Is there something that can be done to reduce it either in set-up or processing? Or am I expecting too much from such a cheap OTA? Many thanks Vern
  3. Rosette Nebula from last night Imaged with ASI585MC on Evoguide 50ED and AZ GTI 100x180s lights. All got pretty frosty 🥶 Pleased with this one from such a small rig
  4. Thanks @Tomatobro That looks really interesting 👍
  5. @Tomatobro Please could you tell me what you mean by the UKMON capture stack? Its a very impressive image 👍
  6. Well, my all sky camera caught just the one Geminid last night. ☺️
  7. Hi Terry, The above were from a Bottle 4. So pretty low light pollution. M33 was very high in the sky so out of the glowing lights of Southampton docks about 10 miles to the South! Cheers Vern
  8. Looks like the counterweight bar and weights are missing too. Still looks like a a bargain though 👍
  9. Hi all, Been having some fun with the ASI585MC, Evoguide 50ED and AZ GTI portable setup. Guiding with PHD2 Zwo mini guide scope and ASI120MM-S. Managed to collect this data last night M33 90 x 120s subs NGC7000 30 x 120s subs + 10 x darks, 20 x bias and 20 x flats and a quick and dirty process in Siril. I will reprocess later but I was eager to have a quick look 🙂 Quite pleased with these for a first night out with all this kit! Also first time using Siril! AZ GTI managed to achieve 1.5 arcsecond RMS which I was amazed ay 🙂 Just shows that the ASI585MC is actually quite capable for DSOs Cheers Vern
  10. Welcome Chris from just over the border in Hampshire (also cloudy)
  11. @LaurenceT That's a fabulous first image. Well done you 🙂
  12. This looks very interesting. I am hoping to try and replicate your findings with a slightly different cooler setup and will happily share my results here. I'd never heard of smartphone coolers until reading this thread ☺️
  13. At the risk of being cheeky, I have a Canon 1100 astro modifed by Juan at Cheap astrophotography. It has served me well for a couple of years but I am about to sell it on. It will definitely be less that £250 😉 Let me know if you are interested. Once again, apologies for being bold!
  14. Definitely Juan at Cheap Astrophotography https://www.cheapastrophotography.com/ Cheers Vern
  15. Hi And welcome Dave. Where abouts are you in Hampshire? I'm not too far from Andover either 😃 Vern
  16. Hi all Two clusters from last night. M3 and M37. Can't remember how many subs were useable after the wind played havoc with guiding. Probably 10 x 90 seconds. Stacked in DSS Quite pleased with these for such a short integration. V
  17. Hi Alacant. Don't you ever have clouds? Seems you are posting another fabulous image every day 😃 Absolutely no jealously here whatsoever! Keep it up Vern
  18. I built one of these. Raspberry Pi powered fun! https://www.instructables.com/id/Wireless-All-Sky-Camera/ Definitely need to add dew control
  19. Thanks for all the responses. I can see opinions differ 🙂 I guess I'll do an experiment and let you all know if I spot a difference Thanks Vern
  20. Hi All, I have always balanced my 130PDS on an HEQ5 using a single counter-weight almost at the end of the extended shaft. It also balances well with 2 weights on a sorter shaft. I understand that 2 weights increases mount loading but does either method effect guiding. I recall something about turning moments etc from Sk00L but it's hazy!! Thanks Vern
  21. Hi All, Quite pleased with this one from 20th January . 30 x 90 seconds + Flats and Bias Using the 130PDS, 1100d modified and HEQ5 First time I've seen the horsey 🙂 Cheers Vern
  22. I think it's time has passed. I did my early imaging with one and was pleased at the time (see attached but be kind). But something like an ASI120MC is just leagues better. If you have one then why not give it a go...nothing to lose 🙂
