Help! Co-ordinates

Hi all

Got my first scope yesterday very excited but ended up very frustrated. Now I consider myself UNSTUPID ! even after watching a video I have not managed to put my coordinates in.

I got my location from Googlemaps but the digits seem too long for the request from my handset. Please help

I have a skywatcher explorer 130p AZ goto mount, my coordinates are 53.034799,-1.193701 but how do I translate that into the handset.

Welcome to SGL. Your scope won't need that level of precision, so try trimming off the appropriate number of digits. e.g. 53.034799 becomes 53.03.

If the handset wants degrees and minutes then

53.034799 is 53  02

-1.193701 is -1  12

It MAY want leading 0's for longitude so might be -001 12

Also you list Lat and Long, handset may want Long then Lat,  -1 then 53, otherwise it ends up thinking it is in Brasil. (It happens a lot)

Good point, my post is only valid if the controller wants the input in decimal format.

Hi and welcome to SGL - This techno stuff can be a minefield that's for sure. A quick google threw up this site http://transition.fcc.gov/mb/audio/bickel/DDDMMSS-decimal.html where you can do the conversion between the two types of measure.
