Can tell I'm bored again. ......for me nothing fancy or flashy...I allways fancied a sw 12" or 14" goto truss dob..think its just the simplicity of the set up and a big aperture that does it for me....Davy

The Officina Stellare look really nice, that coupled with a nice camera and of course a big obs to put it in. Of course we then need the weather, so perhaps remote controlled, and situated somewhere sunny, like the Atacama desert.

Hmm we can dream.

Robin

Northumberland, near to the Atacama, but not quite close enough.

If I had the money now, I'd like to get myself a dedicated solar scope. Before that, mind you, I'd make sure I got myself a decent 10" portable truss dob :p

+1 for the solar scope. As for the latter I'm already there

The Riccardi-Honders Veloce 200 f3 Astrograph.

A good friend of mine has one and he says I can shove my Astrovideo camera in it if I want to try it out. I'll be taking him up on it,

just have to find a good time to drive the 2 hours to see him.

I usually go down and see him once a month, but never been able to stay for night time.

He has done the math (he is an Optical expert and famous Scientist) and he says the Mallincam and Samsung would work nicely in it.

Worth a try. Saves me from having to buy one to find out

It is the same focal length as an ED80 so would still benefit from Focal reduction, but is 8" of aperture    Yum! except the price - $11,000 (6580 pounds)

  • 3 weeks later...

Something from this http://www.alluna-optics.com/Ritchey-Chretien-Telescope.html range would do. Of course the observatory, spectrograph, control room and time to use it all go without saying.

More realistically something like this http://www.orionoptics.co.uk/ODK/odk16package.html but again the observatory would be a given. In fact realistically a well placed observatory would make far more difference than the kit inside it.

Well what do you know I had the money a few days ago and the scope I got was.....

I have purchased my Astro Imaging gear which includes a CGEM DX 11" EdgeHD, ADM "D" Series C11 Dovetail Plate, Used Celestron 80mm Guide Scope, Starlight Express Loadstar Autoguider, AC Adapter, Farpoint Bahtinov Mask, Astronomik 1.25" CLS-CCD (no IR) filter, UV filter, Astrozap Dew heater with flexi heat, Canon EOS T-Adapter, Telrad Finder, A used Mallincam Hyper Plus (Will upgrade to Extreme x2 class 0 later after I learn on this one and am ready to improve), Celestron SkySync GPS Accessory, a Scope buggy, and a ipad Air. I want a LUNT solar Scope  but that will have to wait. I also need to order a MFR-5 focal reducer. Have I forgotten anything? LOL

Should all arrive on Friday WOOHOO.
