AstroMedia is a German company specialising in producing high quality cardboard kits of scientific instruments and educational models that REALLY WORK! The printing is high quality with a beautiful dark blue and gold finish on high quality cardboard. Some kits have the parts pre-cut for easy assembly. All kits come with English instructions. These make excellent gifts for astronomers old and young!

The Stirling engine will operate silently for up to an hour sat on a cup of boiling water and the fully functional cardboard Copernican Orrerry with axles, magnets, pulley belts, planets, bearings, and LED light! :glasses2:

All the kits are in stock except for the Orrery, which is currently being updated.

We wish we had discovered these before Christmas because they make excellent gifts for young inquisitive minds.

They are good fun for kids and adults alike, I have done the Sun projector one which is a really good way to see sunspots.

I wish you guys had them when I got mine as all the instructions I had were in German so it was a bit of a run around.

The manufacturer quoted the build time but the Copernicus Orrery is the only kit not currently in stock (it is being updated) so we won't know for sure until they arrive and we build one. Meanwhile, I fancy building a Stirling Engine :grin:

I've bought two of the refractors (one of each), going to put them together at the weekend. Just need to get the right glue for the lenses, and I'll be we'll away.

i also fancy one of the orrerys :)

Thanks Steve :) that's very reasonable compared to some orrerrys even that mag one a few years ago:) I take it they haven't td you what exactly they are updating?

I think I've posted in another thread somewhere... I'm still very much learning my way around my lathe and I've only just graduated to thread-cutting, let alone gear-cutting, but one of the things I'd really like to build one day is a genuinely steam-powered steampunk-style orrery.
