15 Minutes per sub assuming they're all the same lenght, very impressive considering Hubbles orbital period is ony 96 minutes.

22.5 days of integration time, taken over 10 years... the Hubble team are showing astrophotographers how its really done!

Like others have said, there aren't words to describe how amazing this is! Think we need a separate dictionary to describe most things astronomical.

i bet they have an st80 bolted to the side for guiding. one time they had to send a bloke up in a soyuz to clean the synta grease out of the focuser and dab it with lithium.

I've just spent the last 15 minutes speechless staring at the image trying to comprehend the scales I am seeing....needless to say my mind is blown.

but seriously.....WOW. things like this start to make me feel slightly sick if I think about them, it's just vast.

Indeed it is Shane, quite remarkable. It's almost scary to think how many galaxies you would find if you repeated this across the whole sky. The thing that blows my mind is that those galaxies are not even there any more, and we have no way of knowing or seeing exactly what they are like now.

To put another spin on this however, I just showed it to the Mrs, and after a few moments consideration, and showing a commendable understanding of the scientific value, she uttered the words....

'Well the main thing is that it's very pretty'
