  1. Great stuff and incredible when you think how high it gets at the moment. The coming years will be very exciting for planetary imagers to be sure...
  2. Yes, ditto Jim on that. Hard to overstate having a permanent setup.
  3. Nice images. I haven't used the GPS function for a few years now to be honest. I got sick of waiting for it lock and ended up putting time in manually, something I can always do faster than the GPS lock..
  4. Great report and something that has always interested me since I first observed 3C 273 many years ago with an 8 inch scope. These objects are relatively easy to image but to sit at the eyepiece and comprehend what you are actually looking at as those photons hit your retina is, to me, exhilarating. What this hobby is all about..
  5. Thanks for the picπŸ‘ Actually looks more at home there than I thought it would.
  6. Nice image, and being a user of the ahem... Old beast myself.. Always worth seeing what the aged blue tubes can do. I'd like to see it on that eq6 mind you, always wonder how these things sit when deforked.
  7. I love to read posts like that because I know exactly how you feel, as do all those who love this hobby. Best wishes in your new home.
  8. Very nice indeed. Must be very satisfying observing with and on things you have built yourself. Always tip the hat to ATMs...
  9. Those are very nice indeed.. I went out at 3am and I must admit the seeing seemed very good. Which is rare for me. I'm particularly impressed with your saturn images given its altitude. Well done.
  10. Great report. Urged on by the many contributors here I dragged myself out of bed at 3am. I wasn't disappointed. Excellent seeing and a wonderful view of the GRS....
  11. Mainly visual myself. I think it's natural to assume that those entering the hobby will take advantage of today's tech and also that recording everything these days is the new normal. You only have to look at any audience at a concert to witness a sea of camera phones held aloft. It's relatively easy now to take astrophotos but still difficult, expensive and very time consuming to do it at the highest level.
  12. I actually think what you wrote is true in the main. And I also feel very unsure about suggesting binoculars to newbies for the reasons you cite. I suppose the issue is one of apples and oranges. They can't be compared in any meaningful way. I have a little pair of binos that always go in my suit case, wouldn't be without them...
  13. To be honest I'd have to disagree, I have an observatory mounted 12inch sct, various other scopes and wouldn't be without my binoculars. You are right that they will never show you the objects you have mentioned but their strength is in other areas. They were the first things to pick up last year when neowise made its appearance as one example. I think the other big positive is that you don't upgrade from binoculars when you get a scope. They are useful for the rest of your observing life...
  14. Well you learn something everyday... I didn't know that and it sounds like the kind of trivia I'm surprised passed me by...
  15. Nice image. I have always referred to the first sighting as a new moon. I know astronomically that isn't correct but I will go to my grave addressing it just so....
  16. Right, haven't heard meade SCTs referred to as 2080s for a long time. The LX10 was an entry level 8 inch though... Still have one of those in a box under the stairs funnily enough..
  17. Some nice detail coming out there. Well done. Meade 2080...is that the early model from the 1980s?
  18. Yes, certainly wish them luck. I think this "billionaire space race" is interesting to watch as it unfolds. I haven't really followed it too closely but it seems Branson moved the launch forward once he knew the date of Mr Amazon's launch. Also a line from Mr Bezos that this doesn't qualify as 'space'. A trip into space then back to catch the football.. 😁
  19. Nice images. I particularly like the light in the foreground image, nice composition. I've been seeing norty clouds quite frequently lately. Not sure if they are actually more frequent or I have more time to see them now I'm retired.. πŸ€”
  20. Nice shots. I witnessed a similar display last night. I particularly remember the area to the right where there was a bright very large cloud as you have nicely shown there. Was getting a tad chilly mind you. I was stood in the garden admiring the gibbous moon with just a tee shirt on... ❄️
  21. Some cracking images from everyone "on the fly" as it were. A joy to see the Internet doing what it does best...
  22. Got the PST piggybacked on the scope in the obsy but only managed a few glimpses through a few holes in this murk...
  23. Quick phone shot as I stand looking up... Cloudy but a few breaks...
