  1. For almost 2 years I've spoke with the fire chief for the station 300' from my house. They finally shielded 2 of the 3 LEDs they have on all night. They did the 2 that have a tall thick wall of trees partially blocking them. Didn't do the one that affects me the most. This is what I see every night back to the West.
  2. I guess that you rarely see the auroras at 53N, my only hope at 27N will be the next massive CME. Just hope I still have power and cell phone while I watch it.🙄
  3. I clearly remember being able to see a tail, though faint. My daughter had a friend sleeping over and I woke them all to see it. The friends comment at 1 am was, "you woke me to look at a star?"
  4. Was it a really visible comet, or one that was there but, a fuzzy to the naked eye? I remember waking my daughters to see one about then, but the one we saw was quite faint.
  5. Out in the areas where wildlife exists, you just grow accustomed to it. I hear foxes often in my early morning viewing. Fell asleep while watching a meteor shower only to wake up with that "something's watching me" feeling. Sitting on the corner of my observatory a few feet away was a large owl. Some mornings I get to listen lions growling in the distance. We have several circus families living nearby.😁
  6. Money? Cost? Doesn't money come from a tree or out of a machine?😳 On cold clear mornings you can see the glow of the intersections of the interstate highway to the North and South which are illuminated by very tall poles with sodium lamps. They stretch out for miles both directions.
  7. Somehow, there has to be a rethinking of how we live. There seems to be a total disregard for "normal" people for whom having to live within their means is a way of life. Unlimited electrical power, 1 bedroom apartments $1000.00 a month, let's not talk new car prices.
  8. Just talked about this on the local news and everyone is so happy. If I heard them right, they spent 15 million dollars to illuminate the bridge over Tampa Bay! LEDS that can change color!
  9. I know how you feel. My schedule is 4am to 1pm. On the days I work, viewing is out of the question. When they change the time again, maybe a few minutes before bed. But on my days off, I wake up at 2am just like work days so when it's good viewing, I get out.
  10. That image is incredible. Even when you dont see it with that much detail, the sight of Saturn sticks forever in your mind.
  11. Seeing something move in ways we cant imagine it moving, leaves us all scratching our heads. Maybe some day the militaries of the world will owe up to their incredible secret vehicles, but till then, I'll still believe in alien visitors
  12. Still running an AC 24/7 here in Fla. Yesterday we had what you could call our first good cold front push through. Mainly dropped the humidity. Today it comes back as a warm front and brings 70% humidity back with it. But the change last night was wonderful. Got out at 4am to look at the moon, took in Orions nebula and M31.
  13. We've got another tropical system coming in off the gulf! I'd love to set the camera up but not taking the chance of it getting wet.
  14. I second that recommendation! Got one for my wide field meteor shots, works like a champ on my Canon SL1.
  15. Thanks for the heads up. Was out with the mongrels at 2am this morning and thought for a moment I glimpsed a very faint one that would definitely have been an Orionid. With the bright moon, hard to be sure I had really seen it.
  16. I put in for time off for this event. With me only working 3 days a week, I used a couple extra vacation days to extend it all the way to the 17th/18th hoping for clear skies for the Leonids.
  17. Nice, really nice! When I see it up close, I am always totally blown away by the incredible carnage it has endured.
  18. An amazing image. Joining this forum and being able to see all the images the members post was one of the best things I've done.
  19. It's interesting reading the accounts of your cold weather. I would have to talk with someone who could remember the date better than me being I was less than 10, but the early to mid 60, was some of our freezes that wiped out all the citrus in the area around Orlando. It was never replanted, the industry moved more to the South.
  20. Everything combined together might lead to you having periods of not looking into the skies above us, but you haven't lost your touch! Excellent image again! When I dream of Saturn, its images like that I see in my dreams.
