I put a thread in the lounge about it... sadly leaving the dark skies of rural devon for the city LP :(

My wife has family in the village of Winkleigh, one night after a wedding down there I took a look at the sky, being a Londoner, the view of the milky way was simply stunning!

Yup some of the views I've had here are incredible... It's a waste actually that I've lived here 12 yrs and only had a scope for 1 year! what a waste!

Stay at Olly's place for a week or two, can't recommend it enough :). I probably had about 15 hours worth of stargazing in a week - that would take about 10 weeks in the UK on my average.

Bring a good book to pass the time. I never had to go into a single court room for the week and that seems to be common when you do this. Just sitting and waiting. One of the dullest experiences ever. unless you are interested in that kind of thing :)

Nothing hugely fancy, Bought as a gift. it's a Velbon DF-51 I think it's about £25 aluminium pretty sturdy! My last tripod got stolen! :(

Well it was only a real cheapy the other one. pretty useless in fact :D yeah it's alright easy to use. only thing I say is it's a tad heavy but not awful! :)

I went to the local dark site last night Jessica & boy was it cold, it took me until now to thaw out (6pm)

What are you like!! although probably very worth it... cant wait to get out again and freeze myself to death to get a look :)

Only Astronomers are curious or crazy enough to stand outside on cold, dark winter nights.
