  1. If anyone has clear skies tonight and a little time, could they check out NGC 3190. I swear I saw a star in the line of sight, so it looked like the star was embedded within the galaxy. The strange thing is, I can't find any reference to the star?

That is a great help, Scooot. Thank you. It really is a bright galaxy and quite playful in its way. Since last observing, we've had nothing but rain and cloud. When it clears, I will head out and see if I can properly discern what is going on. Quite frustrating really. Thank you again.

At the moment the weather is quite good here so hopefully it is the same for you and it will hold off for tonight.

No. It's tipping down and cloudy and has been like this all week. I think it will begin to clear up around Sunday :-(

  2. Climbing roof top after moon session and finder did 35m free fall on concrete. It's now on the desk in 5 individual parts.

I guess looking on the bright side, lucky it wasn't you falling 35m. Except for my first day dropping my RDF on concrete I've not dropped anything since .... so far so good :-)

The "extreme astronomer", bit of a nuisance about the finder, but at least your ok

Thanks for the kind words. I've set up a little thread on the entire business in the Astro Lounge.

  3. 4:30am! I've got work in the morning but just couldn't resist Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and the Moon! Great night and nothing strong coffee cannot fix :-)

Good stuff, occasionally going sleep deprived to that extent has to be done. Just once in a while is fine, yet personally it would take me days (and nights) to recover from that episode.

  4. Blazing hot day today. Eclipse is in progress. Really quite pretty :-)

  6. Amazing dark site session tonight. Rather amusingly, however, just about everything either frooze or dewed over; my glasses, the finder, scope's shroud, eyepieces and cases, my shoes, everything :-)

Anyway, the sights last night were phenomenal. The only shame being my boots failed to keep my feet warm after a couple of hours and that with the finder all frozen up and out of action I couldn't easily star-hop.

Sounds a good time you had Qualia. I'm still waiting on a good clear night here to give my new telescope a try. Funny because we had a few good clear nights before I got the telescope lol.

SNOWING!! Oh boy. Okay, I'm going to rub it in a little more :-) :-) Just been out setting up under deep dark blue skies, in a...wait for it...T--shirt :-) Already seen Venus, Mercury, & Mars set within a gorgeous orange sunset. Will wait until the skies are properly dark before I dip and duck and soar between the stars :-) Snowing you say, SNOWING!! Oh, boy :-)

lol! Qualia! I'm bundling up for an adventure tonight in -39c with the windchil... not sure whether to go hunting or relax and see my favorite sights. Any advice from your lawnchair?lol! :)

    4. Qualia

      Qualia

-39ºC. You serious, Gerry!! That's nutty weather :-) I just don't know what to say. I think I'd be a bear and curl up until summer :-)

    4. Qualia

      Qualia

That's very true, Andy! The 1st and 2nd were patchy as JB80 noted, the 3rd was cloud covered and then bang! Big Moon for the rest of the week even though the skies were clear. What makes matters worse is that I can't start viewing till after midnight, so no quick sessions before the moon rises. Hopefully, this and next week will remain clear.

  12. Back on line! It is late now, so I will write more tomorrow. It's good to be back :-)

Ay, it's true, folk do think it's hot all year here. I think Spain is the second most mountainous country in Europe, so temps can be very, very low.

  16. 72 hours of continuous rain and counting. Never seen anything like it! Only last week we were in the high sun-shining 20ºc's. Hopefully clear up in a few days but certainly winter has started with avengence.

  17. My girlfriend isn't really one for space things, but she was suitably impressed with Hadfield's Space Oddity. She's singing along in that thick English accent only the Spanish know how to do. I'm rather impressed by her own rendition.

Thanks, Rob, images should be fine, I took some new ones to replace the blurry ones! It meant I had to play dodge the clouds for a bit, but lucky escape :) No time for such schoolboy errors during the week!

  21. I think this is the worst weather I've experienced in over 2 years. We're already 12 days into the New Year. Not a single night out under the stars and I've only seen the Sun 5 times!! Absolute rubbish. Foggy all weekend and now it's tipping down :-(
